what are the biggest issues that a fisrt time gear and detroit locker installer may run into. special tools that are required? Can I use a thick 5.13 gear on a 4.10 and down detroit lockr?

thanks

If I'm building a non-daily driver mudder, That my take the ocasionally trip through town for showoff purposes could I save myself some money n weld the spiders? If so, how?

Thanks guys
couldnt do it without ya.

detroit lockers for the 14bolt are all the same. it's the carrier that differs. you can drop any detroit in any carrier, then the carrier must match the cut of gears. the 4.10 carrier, i believe is ok for 5.13 regualr gears, i think it's 3.73 and down that you have to worry about. i might be wrong with that too.

If you have a FF 14 bolt, you can only install a detroit into an open carrier. The gov-lok has a different carrier and will not accept a detroit.

As for the gears, read here:

Setting up gears isn't terribly difficult but can be tedious and slow. If you decide to tackle it, expect to spend a fair amount of time (for your first time setting up gears) and money (the tools you need aren't cheap).

With the 4.10 carrier you still have to use the thick 5.13's
