ok, trying to track down both vibration at cruising speeds and seriouse gear howl on decel. well, after pulling the rear diff cover i think i've at least found the answere to the later. the inside of all the teeth on the ring gear are rounded over and there are metal shavings on the little magnet deal at the bottom of the diff. soooo, do you think this is from improperly set up gears? also could this also cause vibration under throttle and at cruising speeds- cause if not its pointing towards bad bearing in the 208. the rear drive shaft has new joints and was just reballenced. tell me what ya think...

also there is a section of the ring gear that has a good bit of surface rust- like it sat with water in the diff for a while. awesome:(

The pinion bearings probably went bad which causes the gear contact to change and destroys the ring and pinion too.

And yes, that would cause a significant vibration.

hmmm, well i've never ever had an issue with a 14 bolt- and i've had a lot of em. strange. anyone got one they want to unload in oregon? 4.10s

Between me and mr250twostroke there are a couple 3.73 14FF's laying around, but closer to Seattle than you would like I'm sure. PM Jeff, muddytazz as he would probably know of one around Portland at the least.

But if they sit with water in them like you suspect, anything can go wrong.
