Gear pattern check

So this is a Dana 44 for a TJ, but I don't really trust that there's a whole lot of real knowledge and not just internet acquired knowledge on the Jeep sites I've seen, so I'm asking here. Any input?

Do at least 7 teeth on the wrong hear. Hold pressure against the grates in both directions as you rotate them. Then post up more pictures.

I am a nube that is going to be doing the same thing soon. Like what was said, needs more resistance to get a better markings on the gear paste, Looks like the pattern is centered though.

And thin your paint out a little with some gear oil, that and putting pressure on the ring gear make a lot more readable pattern.

Well, I didn't get to it when I wanted, then I went out of town for a week, anyway, here are my new and improved patterns. I feel pretty good with this one, anyone think I still need to tweak anything?

Also, thinning the paint with gear oil was genius. That made a huge difference.

Caveat: I'm not a professional mechanic:

With that being said, I've read in a few places that the sharp line in the root of the pattern is indication that you could take just a hair (Like 2 thou) out of pinion depth.

BUT, if Backlash and preload are in spec with that pattern, I don't think you'll have any issues. Just a difference in "ideal" and "acceptable". The D60 I just rebuilt had a very similar pattern, but everything else was in spec, so I buttoned it up.
