I have a set a 1 ton axles, both have 4.10's. I'm upgrading to 5.13's. Would I need a different carrier? I know the carrier break is at 4.10 / 4.56. I'm a little confused, it looks like some articles including this one: http://www.coloradok5.com/gearinstall.shtml shows no different carrier used. I'm having trouble getting the Dana 60 setup right, I would either need some kind of spacer or buy the 4.56 and up carrier for the dana 60. Is the 14 bolt the same way? a 4.56 and up carrier is like 250$ plus! :eek1:

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Garydan, I purchased the thick yukon gear for the 14bolt, but it looks as if I need the new carrier for the dana 60.

appreciate it.

Pretty sure there is no thick gears for a D60 axle like there is for the 14ff.

mr.gasket #904a is what you need for the front end.

unless you run a high pinion front like ford then no thick gear 60 is avalible.

14ff there is thick avalible. its the most comon sold and used in aftermarket stuff. arb air locker only makes a 14 ff 4.10 - down set carrier. you must use a thick cut gear to get 4.56-4.88-5.13-5.38 in that axle with there locker.

I WOULD NOT suggest running a ring gear spacer. A ring gear centers on the carrier and a ring gear spacer can move tha ring gear far enough away that the gear no longer centers properly and you will play hell trying to set-up the gears and a good chance of quick failure. These were made years before thick gear were available and before it was recognized about the issue i just mentioned.

Thanks 4x4HIGH, your on the money! I went down to Randy's here in Everett by Boeing. They said the same thing. They had the carrier for 89 bucks. Picked up new 1350 Yoke while at it!

Thanks again!

I have set up several gears with spacers all 60s all because the guys had detroits. 2 were in street driven muscle cars with detroits in them. Have not had one failure, they are certainly not the best option but not as bad as alot put them out to be

Agreed, it may not be the best but I've seen people do worse. I ran a spacer w/5.13's on 44's for years and never had any problems. :dunno:

i searched it and asked here. lots do it no problems.

i know not best but it works in a pinch if you need it now or save some cash on the almost right deal.

The ring gear spacers on the Dana 60s I have seen don't seem that bad. The reason is that the shoulder on the carrier which centers the ring gear is tall enough so even with the spacer the ring gear is still centered by the shoulder.
