gear ratio advice

I'm one of those guys that roll around w/ 35's on 10 bolts, 4.56's & lockers front & rear.


Go for it if that's what you want to do.


Just carry around spare axle shafts and know how to swap them out.



...or take the brothers advise and upgrade.



I've pulled a few 14 bolts at the Junkyard (for other brothers) and they run around $120 - $180 bucks depending on the weather.

If it were my money burning a hole in my pocket I would go pull a set off a 3/4 ton and be excited about it.

Hey thats me:whistle::D, well i have Yukon axles.
No problems yet, and i tend to give it hell. Im that guy that tries to go everywhere in 2wd. But at least i understand im sitting on a ticking time bomb.:haha:
And yes FYI, i do have a D60/14bolt combo awaiting its install. I just wanna see how far i can stretch these 10bolts before i am forced to upgrade. I see it as going out with a bang.:thumb:

OP, take there advise. Its cheaper to get a 14 bolt and put it in than it is to re-gear the **** 10 bolts.

i dont sell crap. and the deal is there for him . but only if its still there for me. like i said i do not have the extra cash to be sitting on these now if he dosnt want them. heck i am sitting on a pair of 1tons also that dont seem to be selling yet. :doah:

Hey that's me. I have the 10 bolt front and rear. The rear has yukon axles that are upgraded to 32 spling (IIRC), with an aftermarket limited slip, 4.88 gears, and 35" maxis mudders. It's all under an 88 k5 with a new 350tbi and a 700r4 rebuilt before I got it. I found a good used TC-208 from someone here. It got cleaned up and resealed with the correct speedo gears. I still need to swap the front gears.

I would have spent more money to get the correct gears and a limited slip in a 14bff, from what I could tell. I also would have had to find the axle and get the swap all worked out. At the time the K5 was my DD due to the pickup being down for a new engine. My setup works good. I don't hit anything harder than very mild forest trails/roads or snow and ice when snowboarding.
 
ok i found this http://albany.craigslist.org/pts/3086504586.html but now i need to find a front and this is a little far away from me so there goes gas money the more i look into this the more i wanna just change the gears i dont have a even close do decent paying job right now and i wont til im 18 which is when i planned on swapping in bigger axles any way im 16 by the way

I would buy the ton axles but I love 60s with all my heart.
 
I drove 3 hours for a k30 and drove it home. People told me I was crazy but it was cheap. Hell I flew to AZ for a rust free cutlass.
 
lol i dont have enough money to do that, but when ever i say that people seem to not comprehend that i appreciate the advice and help but all these deal are way far away and i dont have enough cash
 
Well first I had to figure out where on earth springwater Ny was. Then I picked rochester figuring it was semi close (it was on google maps). Then I searched Chevy 3/4 ton, Gmc 3/4 ton, and Chevy Axles. You never know what you will find. I would also try chevy 1 ton, gmc 1 ton
 
thanks im going to get a hold of the guy with the 85 3/4 in avon and its 1:42 AM here so im going to hit the hay. ill post and update on whats going on with that deal
 
Told you those axles are cheap. Around here the body falls off way before the rest is gone. I pull the sbc sell it to a dirt burner, save the axles, trans, rad and anything else good and send the rest to be melted into hondas.
