I went to pick up the '84 6.2 4x4 I had shipped from Texas. It had started the day before to unload, but now just clicks loudly. Batts are newer and strong. So I borrow ugly fencing hammer from a trucker, (this happenned at the truck terminal), and with little clearance, rap on da starter.
I hop back in, and click it by turning the key another 20-30 times, and she spins. Phew!
Few glo plugs work, so it's hard catchin, and stalls. It clicks again, so I try the multiple turn the key to "wake it up" trick again, and it spins, starts, and I keep 'er lit...
To me it's a "dead spot" on the armature or similar. Thoughts?
BTW, when I crawled in da back to look for a lug wrench, starter tool, I found the old original style direct drive starter, but no lug wrench... Even under da hood...
