Gear Suggestions for San Diego Tuna run....

You will lose 10-15% of line strength due to knots. That's why you only set your drag for about 1/3 of you line strength. 30 lb line should have a drag set at 10-12 lbs as it comes off the rod tip, not a straight line pull.
......Make sure you make it plenty wet (spit) as you tighten the knot. Tightening down a dry knot burns the line and greatly reduces knot strength. .

Learn something new every day! I've seen guys lick the line before tightening but never knew why...now I know!

OP - is there a specific fishing window for the Tuna? My wife loves wicked tuna show and I'm sure would love to fish them someday.

:haha:

other than properly cleating a boat, my knot tieing is limited to "tie it till it don't come apart".. I don't know a sheepshank from a square, lol. don't want to.. if i can follow the diagram on the Fireline package, I'm lucky.. :haha: my boss, and yard guy tho, know their chit.... got canyon rigging down....
