Gears Anybody knon good tech write up

ok i am new to gears never got into it i have a dial indicator marking compound shims and access to a micrometer but can somebody pleas assist me and tell me how to do it or link me to a tech write up on setting up gears

the dial indicator was free we had a bunch at work and it was free fromn my boss so yeah lets say fall off he truck pricing
