Gears stock Blazer k5 1987

Pretty hard to say for certain without pulling the diff cover off. There were many common ratios, from 2.73, 3.08, 3,42, and 3.73.

The glove box should have some three letter codes that may be accurate if the diff's have never been changed. look for GT5 or something similar. Probably find G80 in the list too. G80 is the code for a Gov-Lock.

you forgot 3.53 's

I'd like to see an RPO in a later K5 with 3.53's. Never heard of that. Rene's numbers are right as far as I know, although I believe the 2.73's were dropped in the early 80's.

The Blazer brochures available for browsing online will tell what was or was not available, but I believe (without checking) it was 3.08, 3.42, and 3.73 only, in the K5's by about 1985.

my bad

for some reason, I always mix up 3.42 and 3.53 (my 87 is 3.42)

I don't know why

Happens to the best of us...don't sweat it.

Dorian, thanks for the scoop on that. I wasn't sure if and when the 2.73's were dropped...

my 84 don't have the codes on the glove box door is there some where else. I've been meaning to figuar out the ratio's just haven't got to it and would love to find a easy way like a three letter code to get them

Without the code the only way you'll know is to pull the covers and look for the codes. It's a good excuse to do a service anyways.

On the edge of the ring gear you should find a series of numbers. The first group will be a part number that won't tell you much. there will be a space, then two number another space, two more numbers etc etc.

Might look like this: xxxxxxxxxxx 11 41 10 86

The last two numbers are the build date, in this example the build date would be Oct 1986. The previous numbers refer to tooth count on the pinion gear and the ring gear. In this example it would bee 11 pinion teeth and 41 ring gear teeth. If you do the math my exaple diff would have 3.73's and was built in oct 86.
