Has anyone found an AC bracket for these swaps that don't require changing all or most of the drive setup? I'm looking at a power steering bracket that might fit where the old vacuum pump was (I still have to check if there is enough clearance).
If anyone has been down this road what did you go with and why? I'm looking for a simple and clean setup. Also at this point the build is getting pricey, so a lower cost option would be great if it exists. Thanks.

I used the gen 5 ac compressor and adapted it to the stock ac system. It is close, but you can position the engine so it fits perfectly. for the power steering, i used a ZL1/CTS-v balancer. Then made a bracket to hold a type 2 power steering pump in place of the gen 5 vacuum pump. All the other accessories are stock. The zl1 balancer has a 4 rib rear pulley that is about 7” and is more suitable for driving the PS pump. If you use the gen5 rear pulley, you will have to use a tiny (2.5”) PS pulley. This has more details and pictures. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-swaps/1945666-72-k10-l86-8l90-swap.html
mine is a L86/6.2/8l90e/np205

Thanks Barraza !! Your write up is full of useful information on this swap.

Does it matter what year ZL1 crank pulley I use? I see one on ebay from a 2012 -2015.

I was thinking of using an All American billet pump bracket and a type 2 pump. They look nice and seem very similar to the one you made. I'm assuming I'll need to shim it to have the crank pulley line up with the PS pulley. Let me know what you think as far as being possible.

Thanks again for your help!

This is what we do. Just swap to a newer ‘19 up water pump and tensioner. Add type 2 pump and bracket. Easy peasy.

That does sound easy! So the 2019 and up water pump and tensioner are smaller? creating more space?
What about the crank pulley size? I was told that I have to overdrive the PS pump to have any steering at idle? It looks like your PS pulley is about 6"?

I guess I should clarify, I’m referring to the L83/L86 to L84/L87 truck accessory drive.
If you have a LT1 accessory drive, I’d have to check to be sure. No need to overdrive the p.s. pump if your running off the main serp belt.
This is the difference in water pumps. It also moves the lower radiator hose inlet to the correct side for our trucks.

I have an L83 with the water pump on the top of your picture. I see what you mean about the lower radiator hose. I haven't gotten that far yet but this is great info. How do I drive the PS pump off the main serp belt? Don't the bracket kits locate the PS pump to run off the crank pulley section that drove the vacuum pump? Did you fabricate your own PS bracket ? Does the bracket attach to the same location as the vacuum pump? If so could you send me a few pictures so I can try to recreate it?

I feel like a complete idiot trying to figure out this PS and AC compressor issue on this swap. Yes they make kits but most require changing everything which doesn't make sense to me and the prices are absurd. Thanks for your help.

Yes it’s a custom bracket. Here’s another couple pics from my buddy. He owns a shop that specializes in gen v swaps.
The lower pic is his c10 engine with an LT2 intake and throttle body that requires an additional idler pulley.
I have found the water pump fairly cheap on eBay. The tensioner and idler I just bought from gm. And my buddy makes the p.s. bracket.

That's a great idea. Do I need to get the AC compressor bracket from that 2019 and up motor as well? Does your friend manufacture these PS brackets for me to purchase? I'm assuming it attaches to the bolt holes from the vacuum pump?

No, the a/c bracket is the same. Yes he does, I will find out what it costs. No, it bolts to the driver side cylinder head. Nothing goes down where the vacuum pump is. You can retain the vacuum pump if you wanted to, but everyone ditches it and pulls vacuum from the engine like normal because nobody wants the dod running in the tune.

Any luck on the custom PS bracket? I see one from ICT billet but it only works with a saginaw pump. I was trying to go with a type 2 pump instead.

I asked him about it, he said he would see if he had any extras in stock. I’ll text him a reminder

He is fresh out at the moment and working on getting some more together.

Thanks I appreciate your help. When they are in stock I'm ready to purchase one. :thumb:
You bet, I’ll keep on him.
These are the numbers you want.
We had to work for these so don’t go posting them all over. Just trying to help out a ck5’er :waytogo:

Sorry for the delay... no problem I won't peep a word.
I've ordered the parts you listed thanks.
I'm curious about the alternator bracket. It looks like mine is way to big and will need to be swapped out. I'm guessing a bracket from a 2019 and up will work just fine?
On another note... what do you do with the vents on the front of the valve covers? Stick some breathers on them?
Thanks again for your help.

The alternator mount is built in to the newer water pump. You get to ditch that current one. On most of the setups, you “T” those vents together and into the clean air in the intake duct between the air filter and throttlebody.

You wanna get 2 of these if you haven’t already when you delete the vacuum pump. Gm # 11602943
If you buy them from ICT they charge an arm and a leg!

That's great news! and it's a Friday night!!

Ok thanks I believe I bought a plug set awhile ago. Now I gotta try and find it. Thanks again for this setup.
