Installing a 700r4 behind a Gen III LSx engine, the 700r4 did not come with a torque converter. I see on Summit Racing etc that the 700r4 / 4l60e torque converters are the same part number. Can I take one from say an 05 truck and use it with the 88 700r4?

Would sure be nice not to have to dremel out the holes on the flexplate to make an older converter fit...

Nope. The LSX converters don't have a provision for the pilot shaft at the end of the input shaft. Plus LSX's use a 300mm bolt circle for the converter. 700r4, 4L60, and early 4L60E's use a 298mm bolt circle for the converter. Your best bet is to find a converter specific to the 700r4 and use an Advance Adapters kit. You could find a 5.3 flexplate, 6.0 spacer and enlongate the bolt holes. But the kit is cheap enough I think. Here

BTW I've got the same project. Only my LM7 is DBW so I have to go full manual valve body. No biggie. Good luck...
