I've been looking around, and have seen all the way from 470 to 600.

What does your 5.3 weigh and what was on it at the time?

note sure on eight...but i can one hand them myself...so somewhere under 800

can't tell you numbers wise what it weighed...but my front end sat up atleast a half inch higher after the 5.3/80e swap than it did with the tbi 5.7/700r4 in there...

id say fully decked it weighs 100-125 lbs less than a first or 2nd gen.

in my experience, the weight difference is barely noticeable to a fullsize truck. i'm talking about hauling my gen I 350 vs my friend's 5.3L in the bed of my 94 c1500. in terms of offroad performance, it might make a difference. but i wouldn't expect it to be drastic. i add a lot more (i'm 190-195lbs) that that weight difference every time i take a seat in the thing and it doesn't seem to care when i have a few 160-210lb friends in there, either.

It appears that an iron block in the LS motors adds 93 pounds over an aluminum block, and an LS1 weighs a touch over 400. So I'm guessing in the neighborhood of 500 pounds, 65 pounds more than my next engine choice, not a huge deal.

5 percent difference in weight is pretty relevant in a buggy.
