I have looked around and have not been able to find any posts about generation 5 LT swaps.

I wondering if anyone has done this? Did they go from an LS or was it from a 350? what transmission they used? What was easy about it, what were the difficulties?

Basically I'm really curious about people's experiences, ideas and thoughts on this.

Yeah it’s totally a thing. I’ve swapped a L83 into a ‘77 K5. My buddy does it for a living.
All gen V swaps in jeeps and squarebody’s.
You can use an old school trans like a th400, but I highly recommend you use the 6 or 8 spd that comes with the gen V. Also using a swap oil pan like the Holley gives more room.

As far as the nuts and bolts, it really don't differ much from an average LS swap. The trucks the LT engines come from lack hydraulic power steering, so you do have to deal with adding one in and deleting the vacuum pump. Get a quality standalone harness and I agree to try and go with the 6 or 8 speed auto that these engines come with to take full advantage of the LT engine.

@Fastereddie swapped mine into my 77 K5. I beat the snot out of it. Only thing I would do is use the 6.2 and the trans like mentioned above. I'm running a TH400 and would like the extra gears the 6 or 8 speed offers. I was getting 15-16 mpg with 35's and 4:10 gears even with the 3 speed trans, it just screams on the interstate is the only downside.

Any thoughts on the 10L80/10L90 transmissions they have going with the LTs now? Heard good things about the 10 speed, but also heard they hate the cold weather.

I'm no help on the transmissions other than to use one that matches. The TH400 is fine but the L83 would like to "talk" to an electronic trans. My engine is not at 100% due to no feedback (can't tell other than a CEL) from a trans signal. Ed put my engine in back before the 8 speed or 10 speed existed so I'm wired up for the 6L90, which will be going in hopefully before BB23.

I'm more just trying to gain information, won't be swapping an LT into my Blazer anytime soon (hopefully won't have to do any swap). But the thoughts came across my head as I will be changing out the head gasket this Sunday for my LS. I have codes running for the transmission now, really need my TH 350 rebuilt and new torque converter put in. Then tune and hopefully it runs better after. For now I just hope Sunday goes good and no real problems happen and everything looks good inside.
