Time to do some cleaning up around here.

I have a problem with hoarding parts. I got on the Gentex mirror kick a few years back, and couldn't stop buying them as I found them. So I ended up with four. Then went a completely different route. I need to get rid of them before I somehow wreck them. I liked this style because they don't have the OnStar button. You'll see that on a fair number of the mirrors.

I put power to all of these, and they all powered up fine. Kind of difficult to actually test the various features, but I can't see why they wouldn't work since the display did. I pulled them all myself from various trucks, however all were in wrecking yards so I couldn't see them work when in the rigs.

The wiring isn't all there. The plugs are, with pigtails, just not the full length of wire. The new trucks are just too hard to pull all of it, and the monkeys at the wrecking yards normally cut every wire when they pull an engine, whether necessary or not. But I got as much as I could from each end. Without going and looking closely, these only require four wires. A power and ground to the mirror, then the two wires from the temp probe. The wiring diagrams for these can be found all over by searching Gentex 177 pinout. You'll see some mention an additional wire for the autodim feature, but the better diagrams I saw seem to indicate the additional wire positions were for other things.

I'd take $35 for a mirror with temp probe (only have 2 probes) and windshield wire hide piece and I'd take $25 for the one without a temp probe or the piece that hides the wiring on the windshield, which are in the mid-upper left of the picture.

Upper left mirror, a temp probe with majority of wiring, and a windshield wire hide piece went with it. Leaves right two mirrors and bottom left for sale, two temp probes, two wire hide pieces. I'd take $75 for all remaining.

Shipping not included, Flat Rate should get one to you for about $15, more for the whole lot I'm sure, maybe $20?

So the temp probe is all contained within the mirror mount plate?

I'm interested

Kind of hard to tell, but the temp probe(s) in the photo are in the jumbles of wiring. Right above, and nearly between the two top mirrors you can make out a black piece, that's the temp probe and it's connector. The little tit is the sensing end apparently. Normally you mount the probe in front of the radiator somewhere. I suppose you could mount it inside if you wanted to measure inside temp. Only reason I can think of that the windshield mount is different is perhaps how they did the compass?

The upper left mirror is sold, updating post now.

Will these work on an 02 truck without onstar? I can't tell by the small pic if they're the same. My 02 display is working very rarely so I could use a replacement mirror.

Can you bend your mirror enough that you can read the back side of it? They generally have gentex/number (like my 177's) on the back. I really don't know enough about these things to know for sure, but unless they really started to integrate the mirrors into the PCM /BCM or somesuch craziness, I would think you'd still have a power/ground/two temp wires. If the connector pins are the same, worst case with that you de-pin them and pin correctly. I can try and take a couple better pictures.

I'll take a better look at it tonight and see if I can get a # off it.

Shoot. I already boxed it up, but the upper left mirror in the above photo is obviously different where the buttons are, there is no white line. Wonder if they were separate?

Thought about it, I *think* you can get an idea of whether the mirror interchanges or not by the plug on the back. The "older" ones like these are 7 pins in a single row. Later I believe they went with a two row connector.

I'll take a closer look at it. I'm getting ready to replace the headliner so I would like to replace this mirror while I have it apart.

I'll definitely take one full kit as long as the mirror does have the temp functionality. I already have the compass and dim attributes of my current mirror, but I want the outside temp option as well.

Let me know.

Thanks!

As of right now it looks like all the "complete" setups are sold, pending payment. I'll keep you up to date, especially if things change.

If you ever get to wrecking yards, it's not too hard to find the temp probes, they are a fairly common option, and should be pretty darn cheap.

So does that mean that I got the last full kit, or that I need to look elsewhere?

Sorry about that. As of right now (before you) all full kits are spoken for. If you are interested in a complete setup, give me a day or so to sort out my inbox, I was gone all weekend and didn't get a chance to answer everyone.
