Think it would hold up?

I happen to have a totally rebuilt unit with 0 miles on it, I think the overall gearing and the o/d would be sweet behind the diesel!

I'd be pushing the GVRW when I tow. The truck weighs 5 - 6000 on its own, with a 1000 lb camper, and a trailer + quad on the back.

I drive gently, and more than 90% of that towing time would be at 62 mph on the highway in 4th and 5th gear.

For the record, I have every intention of switching over to an NV4500 ASAP, but the 1200 dollar price tag gives a guy some major sticker shock, lol

I do also intend on turbocharging the engine eventually, but it will be N/A for this summer at least.

I know they had these 3500 behind the diesel and gassers in 1/2 tons and some 3/4 tons so if you are gentle and do not have the turbo on it yet I think it can survive fine.
Just like my 1/2 ton axles survived 6 years of wheeling with a big trubo diesel and 35" tires with lockers on both, just have to drive accordingly.. :D

Dont waste your time with it. They had problems holding up in the s-10 trucks. I blew up mine in a 90 k2500 6 lug not by hot rodding or off roading but towing a 6000lb boat. And I thought I was being gentle.

But if you do it anyway STAY OUT OF 5TH while towing, they have a nylon coated overdrive gear. The nylon wears off if you do anything but coast down hill with a tailwind.

I may be biased but I realy think they are junk. I dont feel I abused mine in anyway, it just simply gave out under a load.

Theres like 7 differnt versions of them, I think even the nv3500 is simply a redesigned getrag.

It upsets me that my 97 GMC has one.

3/4 ton 4x4, I've since found out the transmission only has a 27 spline output anyways. I've already secured an NV4500 for the truck, along with a complete turbo setup.

I'm hoping to get it all together before summer, I really want to drive my truck this year, lol
