well, im finally getting another chevy. Im getting a 78 k5, with a 6" lift and no drivetrain. the truck has no rust on it. right now it has the stock axles.

My plan:

Corvette 350
sm465
np205
3/4 ton 10 bolt
14 bolt sf
3" body lift
39.5s

eventually i will put in a dana 60/14FF

the truck is set up for an auto, but a buddy of myne says he can get me a sm465 mated to a 205 for 100 bucks. how hard would this be to put in? the truck has no drivetrain in it now. how hard would it be to put in the sm465/205 combo?
Thanks.

Sounds like your headed in the right direction!

Why the sf? the FF are more readlily available, and stronger.

The only snag im seeing with swapping in hte 465 is having to hook up hte clutch, and you will probaly have to drill holes in the frame for the different crossmember. I have the heavy duty one in my project truck.

Oh, and were going to need some pics.:wink1:

Welcome to the best site on the web.

Ok, thanks. what do i need a crossmember out of? Also, if i were to put in a th350 with a 203 could i use the stock crossmember?

Are you getting a 6 lug 14sf or an 8 lug? Reason I ask is a 3/4 ton 10 bolt and the 1/2 ton are the essentially same thing, the 3/4 ton is just 8 lug.

yes, the 10 bolt 3/4 ton has no strength difference over the 1/2 ton, just bigger brakes, i already have these axles that is why i am running them now.

What tranny/tcase combos can i run without changing the crossmember?

Also, what truck could i take a crossmember out of to run the 465/205 combo? how hard is it to run the clutch linkage? will the new crossmember just bolt right up?

Im was kind of missleading about hte crossmember. sorry, i know that some are different such as your typical 1piece or the Heavy duty style.

And a 1/2 and 3/4 10 bolt or 44 have the same brakes, just a different hub and bolt pattern, same caliper basically, same pads.

If you can find it i would run this crossmember, its waht is going into my mud truck.

Kind of hard to see, but there is 2bars, with a skidplate inbetween them.

If you are goign to shop for crossmembers, 1/2 and 3/4 will interchange, but not 1ton. They have a wider and taller frame.

It might, go and meaure the distance between the tranny mouts for your current setup and the 465. If theyre the same you good there, dont need a new crossmember.

Then meausure from the beginning of the current tranny to said bolts, same for the 465. If its the same, Obviously it doesnt need to be moved. If not then it needs to be moved.

Im not knowledgeable to tell you off the top of my head on that. Sorry
