so question... lift laws in NJ go to 10,000lb so 10,0001lb gvrw or over is exempt. Had one in my grasps few years ago but didnt get it. still kicking myself..

how unfriendly would it be to take one of these..

and turn it into a 4wd - 454 BB powered - 54" bogger machine with a well shortened frame???

You'd need a real beefy front axle--even a D60 might not like all that weight...a 454 would be nice, but if the original engine & trans is still good, why not keep it ?...A divorced transfer case would be the easiest way to get 4wd...a donor military 6x6 would be a good donor rig for it !.

For the same money you could get a Deuce or 5 ton and not have to do anything to it to have a big wheeler just as capable as that.

And 9k is exempt if it's diesel.
This. Plus it would be a way cooler starting point. If it's too long for you, bob it into a 4x4

I have done a lot of reading on pros/cons .

if me my self I would start 5ton military over 2.5 ton .

We have similar lift laws in Utah. A guy I used to hang out with took one of these

1978 ford f600 and cut it in half through the center of the front door opening and welded on a front end off a standard 1978 F250 so it had the pick up front end and welded on the pickup rear frame and bed and axles. It was registered as an F600 so high gvwr and he was running 44" swampers. It was big and pretty cool but way too much work and he still got harassed by the cops a lot and would then have to go to court and fight it each time. Just cut to fit and deal with it.

Another guy I currently work with took a super duty like this and put on about a 5" lift and cut like crazy to fit 46" military tires and still sit low enough for Utah lift laws.

Look for a K30 trailering special they have a 12k gvw

our laws for a in law truck max tire is 38" true measurement... dont care what it says on the sidewall...

but an out of law truck (self inspect) is able to be inspected by DOT... and from what I gather if it is street legal it is allowed thus 54" boggers would be allowed...

I was set to buy one from a member here. Stupid that I didnt... still kicking myself...
$300 with no motor/trans or front d60.. would make it rollable..
$1000 shipping company to get it from Cali to NJ...

$1300 and i passed on it... sux.. should not have!!!!!

I have another one here at the house , but a crew cab

hmmmm yes what I have found is these trucks were mainly in your area.. AK... so the guy I was going to buy from had it sent over, he took what he wanted and I was going to buy the rest..

seems the 12k gvrw was a big deal in alaska... contemplating some day getting a crew cab and be exempt. funny thing is all I want is a bit bigger and like the ford 600... i want to keep it low ..

portals and true 40's-42's...
