I am debating on doing my own drill and tap for hydro or buying the EMS caps. My question is how does the end cap come off the PS gear box after you get the huge snap ring out? I was thinking if I could crank the wheel the pressure would pop it out but the gear box is out of the truck. Maybe weld a piece of steel to the end of the cap to pull on???

It's aluminum....Your first idea will work. Use a chanel lock, wrap the shaft with a rag and turn the shaft and the end cap will be pushed out.

****Beware, the balls will follow shortly, so be prepaired!!!!!

I ran a self tapping screw into the middle of the cap and used a claw hammer to pry it out quick and easy, plus you don't blow oil or the balls out of the box!

I lost mine.:o Out the top while porting the box. Wasn't paying attention and plop, everything fell out and went everywhere.:eek1:

Anyone got a box rebuilding write-up? Might as well do it all right now.

I've pushed the caps off two boxes while they were on the bench just by turning the input shaft and letting the piston push them out. If you turn the input just enough to get the cap pushed out you shouldn't lose your balls :eek1:
