Getting rid of TBI saddle tanks.. what is the best way

Is using a suburban tbi tank and putting it behind the axle the way to go?
what about a custom tank...?
(must be smog legal)

easiest way would be a sub or a blazer tank, and they will be smog legal if all the hoses are hooked back up


the large blazer tank is 31 gallons

This is the fuel tank I am going to replace my saddle tanks with. This is a 45 gallon aluminized diamond plate steel fuel tank. It bolts into the bed of the truck...right behind the cab. A high pressure OEM TBI in-tank fuel pump can be used, and it is 50 state smog legal.

I put a blazer tank in my longbed to get rid of saddle bag tanks. It was not a bolt in affair. I made cross members cause the stock ones won't work without mods. I doubt a blazer tank would fit in a shorbed without being above the axle, which would be bad unless you got 17" of lift or you never flex it.

Burb tanks in 87-91 came in 43 gallon, I do believe.

I also *think* there was a pickup tank for under the bed somewhere, but all I've ever seen is the saddle tanks.

I know my '87 stepside does, and I would imagine all R/V body style 87-91 trucks do.

A 40 gallon sub tank fits nicely but you need to pay attention to when everything lines up. But it will fit. All I did was make two simple crossmembers and cut out the tire carrier and the rear crossmember. My hitch works good to replace the rear crossmember.

These type of fuel tanks are pretty expensive...about $500 (not including the brackets and hardware needed to mount OE fuel pump and fuel filler neck)

Thanks, I've got the 25 gallon tank already and I thought it was gonna be a no brainer, but I'm starting to think it's gonna be more than I first thought.
