I am having a horrible time getting the tail lights to fit flush...they look they are ridiculously high standing out from the body.

looks like the taiwan made quarters are coming back to bite me in the @$$ again...those tail light fixtures WILL NOT fit in there.
a long time ago somebody asked a question about how to get the Cheyenne emblem nuts off and I shot a few photos looking straight into the tail light holes in the original quarter panels...man I wish I could find those pictures...maybe it would show me what is different

the tailight lenses should be "a little" high but not "ridiculously" high. There should be a small 1/8"-3/16" gap between the lens and body. Maybe the inner seal is too thick?
here's a factory one:
the gap shows up more if you use an aftermarket lens (the area that would be closest to the tailgate) - and you can see the inner seal that keeps out the junk...but it should still be somewhat flush with the body lines.

I got them on...thanks to everybody for their pictures and comments...I still feel that I should "seal" behind the lens with something that doesn't look jerry rigged
I had to replace the silver part on the burb and it came with no gasket. The factory one had a thin foam seal that I removed and put on the new. Here is the old and it has a seal for the red to the silver. Are you missing those seals too? It seems with out them they would be lower. So I have no clue I can pull the lens on the burb and take pictures if that helps?

no need...that seal on the back isn't pressed against all sides of the quarter panel metal anyway...so it's not a full seal.
I'm good with it the way it is...I may use some clear silicone at some point.
