I bought some new tires for my DD today, but won't be putting them on till May or so. I wouldn't mind them getting a little harder between now and then so they wear a bit better.

Would I be better off putting them outside in a shed in the cold or do you think I should put them in my basement since its warmer down there?

What are your thoughts?

Is there really a way to condition tires for longer wear? I would think tires are better served by avoiding harsh weather.

I'd think the durometer of the rubber was inherent in the rubber itself, no real way to make it "harder" or "softer" other than buying a softer or harder compound tire.

Maybe its just an old myth, just curious as to your guys thoughts.

Look how hard old tractor tires are vs new ones. I agree if theyre left out in the elements for a long time they do get harder. Problem is there probably isnt much useful service lift left at that point.

I'd say myth. Swampers as an example are a soft compound tire. They'll wear quick no matter what you do. An "E" rated highway tire is a much harder compound, and as a consequence wears a lot longer. The only other factor affecting rubber hardness is temperature, but it's not a permanent change being made to the tire.
