Just wanted to post some info for us about the dreaded Ghost Wipe wiper problems on 1979 thru 1982 chevs. The problem is when the wiper control module goes to hell. And guess what, nobody but AcDelco carries the new module at a cost of $150. Ouch! Well I have some good news, if you need a new one and want to save the money, let me know. I work for a company that has the resources to rebuild these for about $5 in parts, and the guy that does the work, will do it for free plus parts. I hope this helps to save a little money. These days saving money is hard to do with the economy the way it is.

I had that problem on my '86 K10, back in the day. The "ghost" would appear, then a small puff of smoke would sometimes come up from somewhere under the dash. (no joke).

Wish I would've known the cause of it back then. :doah: Thanks for the info.

Ouch!! The later models with the wiper switch on the column you can still get fairly cheap. It is very annoying when it 80 degrees and sun and your wipers come on for 1 wipe and shut down. Kinda embarrassing!

embarassing indeed... and you're right, always happened on hot, sunny days. :haha:

I sold that truck several years ago. It was my 1st vehicle. Now I have a '76. No switch on the column. Less convenient, but more reliable I think.

Nice truck! Yeah you might have the same problem. I am not realy sure about the later model modules. If yours does this in the intermittent mode only it is most likely the module. If it does this on lo or high, it might be the switch on the column.

I figured out if I drive faster, the water just blows over the roof.:D

You got it!!! I have found that if you drive faster with RainX on the windshield it solves the whole wiper problem all together. Had to do this because my module was being rebuilt and it rained the day I pulled it out!:haha:

Mine doesn't turn on by itself.. yet, but it acts up with the delay module hooked up. I think both the old modules I have are bad.. Rock auto has new ones for like $40. I've just dealt with it.. one of these days it'll piss me off enough to try a new one.
