I've noticed that I can hear water/air girggling through my heater core. I've checked my water/coolant level and all is good. I also don't see any coolant leaks arround/below the heater core/box. Any ideas or suggestions?

A gurggling noise is very similar to the sound that MojaveK5 had when his engine was overheating on our wheeling trip last weekend. Almost sounded like he was boiling eggs on a stove. He didn't have a fan shroud which caused the overheating. Maybe the same for you.

Big Blzn,

Thanks for the reply. No fan shroud after switching over to a dual electric fan settup with adjustable t-stat. I haven't had any over heating problems. I do hear the gurggling noise regardless of engine temp or length of run time. Do you think I have a leak or something letting air into my heating system? Is it possible the noise is a warning of pending heater core failure?

I am not an expert of heater / ac systems at all. You could have an air pocket in the heater core and it getting real hot. Not enough to overheat the engine and make it spew coolant all over the compartment or even into the overflow tank but just enough to make make boiling sounds I suppose. On our trip last weekend I didn't "overheat" but after some looooooooong steep hill climbs into the mountains I did notice a faint bioling sound of the coolant when I popped the hood to check things when I stopped. My heater hoses have a cable/stop type valve connected to the control panel on my dash that will cut the flow of coolant to the heater core. If yours has this try closing that valve thing and see if the gurggling noise from the core stops. Either way you should look at getting a shroud for the radiator.

Usually, when I hear that girggling sound I know I better haul ass home quick and get to the bathroom PRONTO! :D :haha:

Truth! Isn't it funny how the more you have to go the harder is is to get the pants off quickly?:doah::haha:

sorry, back on topic.....

Most likly you have an air pocket in your heater core. My blazer did it every time I turned the heat on or if the heater was already on, it would do it everytime I would start her up. I did this for 7 years I owned it. No leaks.

It makes this sound the whole time you drive or just when you start up / stop the engine? Some noise on start/stop is normal.

The noise is on start up and at random times while driving...definitely when activating the heater. I've also noticed that I do get some moisture condensing on the inside of windshield when turning on the defrost. Could this be a tail tell sign of heater core failure?
