I am in California and I know about deaver, I just have zero sand experience that's why I asked.

If you want to go decent speeds comfortably with leaf springs you best bet is custom springs (ORD/Alcan, or Deavers).


If you wanna cruise around and just have some fun, and not be bothered by a somewhat bumpy ride, go with some tuff country springs.



Good shocks in both applications will help a lot.
 
Also the dunes themselves play a role. Ours are pretty small and you get lots of chatter bumps from trucks driving everywhere. If it's super smooth out there and you don't haul over whooped out areas, I'm sure you can go plenty fast and have fun without custom springs.
 
This is stock springs on a busy weekend here with lots of tire tracks making for nasty bumps.


Just listen for the rattles :haha:

I am also setting up my 74 K5 for sand, so I been driving the Pre Runner Fab Shops nuts around here, boils down to how much do you want spend, seems the least expensive is the Deaver Long Travel Springs and some 2,5 King Shocks Valved correctly about 12 to 14" wheel travel, there are a few shops doing link suspension systems using Coil King Shocks they are getting 24" wheel travel, the seem to suggest the Deaver Springs in yr front also, or go all balls out with twin I beam set up but now your into 10K for suspension, plus your now 2 wheel drive


 
Can someone explain what that rear supension setup is with the one little shock on trailing arms and no "upper" links??? Ive seen a bunch of rigs lately with that. I dont get it....
 
Small shock allows but controls axle wrap. Allows the axle to rotate through the small chop if needed and rotate if a big forward hit happens. Think of the front arms on a vw front end. They allow the wheel to rotate back and up. Lessening impact. Same thing here only smaller radius and a much stronger shock. That is why the panhard bar is needed. No upper link.
 
It would be much more beneficial to have a parallel four link and I'm not sure why they didn't besides he packaging issues.. Still you could build this really cheap at home..
 
Its really cool. I have seen that video of the giant motorsports one. But ive seen this same concept a few other places. Just wondered if there was a specific term for it.

Always cool to see something different though.

I wonder how it handles, I wonder if those little shocks would cause any weird unloading issues in a tight turn :dunno:
