are one of the codes in the glove box one for the gear ratio?? is there any other way besides counting gears to figure out what the ratio is??

Glovebox code starting with "G" or containing a sequence such as "G80" tells what FACTORY ratio was. G80 however is the code for the factory locking rear, but there will only be one or two G codes on most truck RPO tags.

You can also pull the diff cover and read what is stamped along the edge of the ring gear, pictures and descriptions of what to look for have been posted on this forum a few times.

Also possible to jack up the rear end and rotate the tire(s) while watching the pinion/yoke as well.

In any case, most accurate is to pull the diff cover, read the ring gear, inspect the innards for wear/problems, and change the fluid at the same time.
