hey, my glow plug indicator, did not light up today, and now my 6.2 diesel will not start. i did the carb cleaner shot and started right up. ive heard maybe my controller, and that it can be overridden by adding a manual, push button. anyone know how to do this. or where i can find this information. i have to use this burban everyday. i need help fast. thank you to all ahead of time.

You can test your glow plugs quickly and easily using a test light. Attach the alligator clip to the positive side of the battery, and touch the probe end to the spade on the end of the glow plug. If the test light lights up the GP is good.

You may just have 8 dead GP's...you wouldn't be the first.

there's a connetion plug on the manifold of the 6.2...right where the distrubutor is on a normal chevy motor...if this plug comes loose or gets wet inside..it can cause glow plug problems...
I'd check that plug and throw some electrical grease in there to be safe..my plug comes loose now and then.

cool blazooki, ill check that. after trying to start it whole crank period, then break for starter, the second round she starts up. alot of smoke but starts up. im way beyond lost now.

What color is the smoke? Most diesel's when the glow plugs aren't working completely or at all will smoke on start up. usually the reason it starts on the second try is because the cylinders have create heat and with warm fuel in there the eaiser it starts and then blows all of the excess out the tail pipes.

ok connection on back of manifold is plugged in and ok. i still cant find a diagram to hard wire with a momentary switch the glow plug controller. that is what im wiring right not the round temp looking connector, that is supposed to be the relay or am i hard wiring the relay. one looks like a ford solenoid wiht alot of wires and the other looks like temp sensor with two wires which one do i wire to a switch and how?? thanks again. yeah i smelled the smoke its fuel, ehh no worries on that.

ok just a question. if one or all of my glow plugs were bad, would the burban still start and run all day, like it normally did. im slow so got to work with me sorry. someone sent me a diagram. im asking a few people if it is the diagram i need if soo, it will help. thanks

ok while testing the glow plugs as said. do i leave key off or on, do i remove the connector to the glow plug complety or just move it up a lil bit?? thank you

darn i was hoping for diff answer, lol. but how i asked how to check them what way is correct? and honestly. thank you for the help

ok am i over thinking this or what?????? i can use a ford starter solenoid, use the battery wire going to the controller and put it on the solenoid and put the glow plug wire off the other end of the controller on the other end of the solenoid, and just put a simple momentary switch on the s or the i terminal rightttttttttttttttttttttttt and it will work???????? or am i just duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhing it?? thanks

You don't need key on or anything to test the GP's. Do it just like I described...remove the connector, test GP, put connector back.

Confirming you have working GP's is step one. Hacking into wiring is like step 14...

So you don't have to scroll back up...alligator clip on the positive terminal of the batt, probe of test light touches the spade of the glow plug. If it's lights the test light the GP is good, no light the GP is dead.

Tell us how many you have working and how many are dead and we'll go from there.

Is this what you have on the fenderwell?

rusty, no i dont have that on the firewall anywhere. that looks like the early style controller/relay. i used one of those brand new to hook up my manual switch. i found the controller, i checked all 8 glow plugs all are good. i hooked up the manual switch and almost found out the hard way. that you either CANNOT hook up the glow plug light with the switch, i was blowing 50 amp fuses. so if you do do this hook up a momentary switch or i used a toggle switch, to fit in with the other switches, butttttttt i made sure it lite up. almost melted a whole bunch of wires. none of the sites say anything about either one of those problems. with the momentary switch set up, i thougth was best to put a fuse inline because hard wiring it melted the wires if i held it for more then 3 seconds. just my thoughts and experiences. also the circut card or what ever im not supposed to have, i have under the steering column. does that make this a fluke or a military red suburban?? thanks
