got this old 4 speed in trade, built in '66. no bell housing, has a yolk on the back for a divorced T case. the shifter bushings need rebuilt, but it looks good past that.

this trans has a LOW 1st gear, i believe it is 6.68-1 compared to a 465 which i believe is 6.53-1?

Evidently these aren't easy to get a hold of, But im mostly interested in turning this into a married/divorced 10 spline 205. I will trade straight across if you got one? otherwise, 100 bucks seems fair.

Actually that isn't a muncie (SM420 or SM435) but rather a New Process (NP435). It is interchangeable with the SM420. The first gear was more commonly found in GM apps with a 4.56:1 first gear and a closer ratio than the SM420.

Quote from this site:
The New Process 435 transmission was used in Chrysler (1963-1993 ), Ford (1964-1987 ) and G.M. (1963-1972 ) trucks. These transmissions have a 6.68 to 1 1st gear ratio in all three applications. While Chrysler and G.M. applications also offered a 4.56 to 1 ratio. The Ford versions adapted real well into the early Broncos (1966-1977 ) and late Jeep CJs (1980-1986 ) with only minor modifications. While other conversions require more modifications including drive shafts lengths. The NP 435 is a HD transmission with cast iron case and aluminum cover. It is synchronized 2nd through 4th gear with sliding gear for 1st and reverse. They ran a solid cluster on needle bearings and a tapered main drive gear bearing on most applications.

It was a common transmission found in 1963-66 GMC trucks behind the 305/351 V6 for the better gear ratio's.

Could you put it in 1st gear then turn the input shaft and tell me if it takes 4-1/2 or 6-1/2 rotations of the input to equal 1 of the output? I may be interested in it if it's the 4.56 ratio 1st gear.

Kenny, you are right. Its pretty hard to miss with that big ol' NP right on the top. my bad. henceforth, i know nothing about this trans. I dont have it in front of me, but i will try to get some info for you.

Well i haven't spun it for you yet, i need to find a shifter stock in my pile.
