I just had my rear end lock up on my blazer and it almost rolled the truck on the pavement!
I was looking for some advice on weather to fix the GM 12 bolt axel and install a locker or to buy another complete rear end.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Depends... have you opened it up to see why it locked up? Sounds like the retaining pin came loose and caught the inside of the housing and locked up the housing.

Depends on tire size , your budget , and intended useage .

Its easy to bolt in 3/4 ton axles and buy a Detroit , conversion u-joint , and 8 lug wheels if your running over a 35-36 inch tire ......

.....its also easy to stick in an open carrier with your gears and add a lockright if your running 35-36 tires or smaller , and want to run your exisiting wheels , u joints , and save money for other parts .

If you're going to replace it with another 12-bolt, just go buy another one with a matching gear ratio, and maybe swap brakes if yours are in better shape than the donor. A little digging on Craigslist, or if you have a good local junkyard ... shouldn't cost you more than $100, $150 tops for a complete axle if you're not in a big rush. (Heck, if you were closer you could get mine for cheap... but seriously, might be worth ponying up the membership and find somebody here. 12-bolts are not a hot commodity item.)

If you are planning on upgrading, however, it snowballs quickly. A 14BFF is a great axle, but requires eight lugs wheels, etc etc. Take Pauly's advice for direction there.
