gm 2.5 tons....are these any good..? anyone have any info on them, i know the front axle spins reversed and ill need the t case or turn the chunk around and make it high pinion, they are from a 1953 troop carrier and looks to be 20 inch wheels on them. The trucks whole minus the bed, 500.00 seems like a good price for the axles and the case. They remind me of a nine inch the way they come apart, also im wondering the width of how much wider they are than a regular chevy..?

Face Loaders??

I have seen a lot of peole around here running them on the "Low budget" trucks....

From what I understand they are pleny strong, just *harder* to get parts for.

yep, they arent easy to find on the net, im wondering if i put them in can i put 15inch wheels on them and run my 39s, that might be too much gear (6.17s) with my 465......

Jeff Lyons did a build using these axles on his truck, Mudzilla. They pretty much bolted right in from what I remember. Even the spring perches matched up(GM kept things pretty simple for a long time). Search here for the build.

Yeah Mudzilla had them, i would say there are 5 drawbacks

1.there not a toploader
2.parts availability and aftermarket support
3.strength is marginally better then that of a stock dana 60
4. the brakes...... drum only no pinion brake option and not sure if F700 stuff cna be adapted like on rockwells
5.Weight there heavy ,weight VS strength a Dana 60 wins

I my grandfather has a bunch of those old GMC 6x6's and he used them to plow with they didn't really hold up very well he talks about problems with the front shafts and bearings and the brakes being kinda crappy
