Wanting to swap over to the serpentine setup so I just pulled out a complete serp setup from a 454 out of a '81-'87 Suburban, not sure if '88-'91 so I assumed it is the earlier year model.
My current setup has the v-groove belts with the a/c and power steering pump/reservoir in the stock location. Now, this serp setup I pulled obviously didn't have the a/c pump but I was after the 2 piece stamped steel alternator/air pump brackets for ease of installation then I decided to yank out the serp stuff while I'm still there.

But.... those aren't the actual brackets I really wanted.

So....after some hours of google searching, I'm learning that there are the 2 piece alloy brackets (one bracket per side of engine, similar to the '89-'91 350 brackets) that will fit the big block but I cannot confirm if they are OEM or aftermarket. I searched on here first and most threads are from the classified forums, which are of no help.

Anybody out there have this stuff? Post up pics if you can and where did you get them?

EDIT: forgot to mention I want the brackets with the belt tensioner pulley, like the '89-'91 style.

I saw these but I was hoping I could use them with the hydroboost pump and the stock a/c, so that's why I asked about big block brackets....If I go this route using the small block brackets, I'll have to change out everything to fit them, since 454 stock stuff won't work. That means changing out the a/c and possibly the power steering pump and relocate the reservoir. Correct me if I'm wrong and add any other suggestions that I might have overlooked. I just can't see this far ahead.

you would have to do that with the 454 alum brackets anyway, alt is on drivers side, a/c on pass.

So are you also saying the 454 alloy brackets do exist? What years are they on?

I'd rather go grab some from pick-n-pull than buy aftermaket stuff.

I don't know of any alloy brackets for a big block. As far as I've seen the early brackets were stamped steel and were prone to crack and break. The later 94-95 brackets have the alternator on the driver's side and were cast iron. The Vortec 96-00 brackets were also cast iron and have the alternator on the passenger side. All of the brackets have been discontinued in individual form so you'd have to order a kit that includes the 94-95 style brackets, alt, water pump and P/S pump for about 7 bills. They are hard to find used so good luck. I may have a set of Vortec style brackets if you can't find anything else.

Thanks BB72, if I don't find anything local then I'll check with you to see if you still got 'em.

Thanks Jason. Hmmm....so it's in the '92-'98 model years. Gonna check the yards this weekend, but this isn't a final decision though, depending on whether the yards have them or not.

It would have to be the 92-93 model years as I haven't seen very many in these years but I know for a fact they only came in cast iron 94-00.

Dang, hunting down a 454 for those two years are gonna be fun. I think I need the exercise anyway. :wink1:

Why not use the cast iron brackets? You'll have better luck finding them, I've never actually seen a set of aluminum big block serp brackets and I'm not convinced they even exist. The 5 lbs you'll save may not be worth the headache.
