GM announces new 4.5L V8 Duramax

If this engine is NOT an electronic nightmare, I can see it being very hot for swaps. They say if fits any where a SBC fits.

The new oil burner is expected to produce at least 310 horsepower and 520 ft-lbs. of torque.

Alot of possibilities...

On paper it sounds good. Unfortuneatly the article claims its all GM designed. I say thiis because the 5.7,6.2, and 6.5 all left something to be desired. I'm not going to hold my breath but this could be very very cool.

Did you see its got aluminum heads with integrated exhaust manifolds. Wonder how well that will work out...

Kind of like the corvair heads
Well the corvair proved to be better than what consumer reports say so I will wait to give my judgement.:D

Technical highlights of the engine include aluminum cylinder heads with integrated manifolding; a variable-vane turbocharger with intercooling; a Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) block for a stronger and lighter engine base (compared to lower-strength aluminum or heavier grey cast iron); and fracture-split main bearing caps and connecting rods for a precise fit. An electronically controlled, ultra-high-pressure, common-rail fuel system is used, which has the ability to inject fuel five times per combustion event to control noise and emissions.

Yes, aluminum heads?

It's gonna have that afterburner exhaust system as well.

My big problem usuing aluminum heads for an automotive diesel is they seem to have a shorter life span than an iron headed motor. This motor could be the motor to break my perception of that.

I think you got that backwards. It's pics of a burb with the new diesel in it. Not that you can actually see the engine anyway.

I was going to say the same thing, there was one picture that is the right angle to see some of the engine but it's dark in the engine bay you can't see anything.:o
