GM Announces Production of New 4.5-Liter Duramax Diesel V8 for Light Duty Pickups

I had a feeling it might be a repost...but I came across it by accident and figured I'd post it real quick, oh well.

Cool, though, I been thinking they need to start making smaller diesels for a long time.

Yup, it's about time to cath up with Europe and Asia, they use diesel in 90% of their vehicles in some countries like France.

I wonder if they'd offer it as a crate motor?:wink1:

When it was first posted a few months ago, the source said they will have it available for retrofit on other vehicles.

Even if they do, I imagine the cost will be in the neighborhood of $4,000 +

That's peanuts, I would pay that much for a standalone diesel

I'd expect closer to 3x that for pricing on a stand alone conversion. If it came out as a stand alone conversion for $4000, I'd buy 2 before they came to their senses and upped the price!;):haha:But seriously, if they come out with a full stand alone conversion for a reasonable price, I'll be figuring out a way to afford one for the Jimmy!:D

Yeah usually they go for $12k-15k
I would jump on a dozen for me if they go $4k:D

15K :eek1: for a light-duty diesel?

For a stand alone swap motor, I wouldn't be too awful surprised. It will be used in light duty trucks but I'd imagine also cabover trucks (think like the Mitsubishi Fuso style) Ford has their light duty diesel already in their cabovers and it isn't due for F-150's for a little while yet. Those trucks are rated about equal to a 1 ton dually (IIRC) so... Oh, don't forget breadtrucks and such too perhaps (competition for 4BT?).:D
