Guys,
I'm looking at picking up this Crate Engine from GM..

"330 HP @ 5000 RPM, 380 ft.lbs. Torque @ 3800 RPM (Max. Recommended RPM: 5500)
9.1:1 Compression Ratio
Cast Iron 4-Bolt Block with One-Piece Rear Main Seal
Nodular Cast Iron Crankshaft
Cast Aluminum Pistons
PM Steel Connecting Rods
Cast Iron 64cc Chamber Vortec Cylinder Heads with 1.94'' Intake and 1.50 Exhaust Valves
Dual Pattern Cam, Lift: .435'' Int. / .460'' Exh., Duration @ .050: 212° Int. / 222° Exh.
1.5 Ratio Rocker Arms "

The Question i have is this..........They say it's only for PRE 76 vehicles. What's the deal with that anyway. Is there something different about the block or is it just some Hokey emissions thing?????

Thanks Guys.

Gold Canada Gold!

sounds like emissions BS, you could put that engine in anything . My brother put a 440 in the front of a karmanghia.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy!

hokey emissions thing
its the same 1 piece rear small block that you have in your truck (well a little different since its the 350, but you get the point) .
if you dont have to worry about emissions, dont worry about a thing, get some headers and dual pipes and you'll love it.
if you do have emissions testing you may have to transplant your current emissions crap to this engine, but i've heard of people getting away with just a cat and passing with a new engine since they're so much cleaner than an engine that was actually built and run since 87...
i did the same swap, 305 to new vortec 350ho, sure did give my blazer a kick in the pants

so it would be alright for me to use one of those engines in my 89? all i have for emissions is an 02 sensor and a catalitic conv.

Was told that engine would work just fine in any emisions equipt vehicle. That was by a smog dude too. With the fuel injection you should be fine, just don't run it lean.

IT'S MOSTLY MAUI WAUI.... BUT IT'S GOT SOME LABRADOR IN IT

I just put the same gm engine in my 77 k5 every thing went in no broblems and its the best thing I have done so far I used headers and new exaust and a new intake&carbthe k5 runs good!! the smog thing is bull mine passes with no problem.las vegas is strict on smog stuff. my k5

1977 k5-blazer4"pro comp lift 3.5 in rear dana 44,12 bolt rear, 350 &,205 t-case,465 trans,flotech headers and mufflers

I think they've got an intake manifold to match your tbi to their vortech heads. I want to do this one too.

Tom

Don't follow me, I won't make it.

You'll need a vortec intake and an EGR pipe.
The vortec heads have no EGR passage. You'll
need to run the pipe from the exh man to the intake.
Do a search. This just came up a day or two ago...
