I just bought a 2011 3/4 ton burb and need it modified for a wheelchair lift. I drive from my wheelchair and need the body lifted and the floor lowered (drivers side) to gain clearance in the drivers area. What is your thoughts on clocking the transfer case a quarter turn? Can it be done and is it real harmful to this t-case to do it?

THANKS

You're talking about clocking the transfer case down? Theres no reason you cant do it but a quarter turn will never work. A 30 or 45 degree drop may work depending on clearance. Idk what model case you have in the truck but contact Kurt at DIY4x he may be able to make you a clocking ring if hes knowledgable of the tcase.

If you do clock the tcase, you front driveshaft angle will likely be an issue. The case itself should be fine though, as long as you have the proper fluid level. You will probably need to modify the transmission crossmember as well. Would have been a lot easier to buy a 2wd instead (unless you absolutely need 4x4).

Thanks man. I'm not very knowledgable about clocking anything but I understand the possiblities. I need to beable to keep the floor as flat and wide as possible to get behind the steering wheel and have room for my right wheels to sit flat next to the center hump. Is there any harm or weaknesses caused by doing this? Warrenties aside. I need 4x4 as well.

what about just dropped recesses for your wheels to drop down far enough instead of the entire floor?

sorry, can't help ya on the modern case question..

is there a professional outfitter anywhere near ya? I'm thinking ambulance builder, etc?

Can we get a picture of another vehicle of yours, that's done up already? Or some other vehicle with a similar floor. The wheel tubs sound good but I'm sure that would be hard to get back out of.

I don't think you'll find much help on the subject. I think starting with a body lift is the right thing to do. Then you can drop the floor. But are you asking about the T-case because it's in the way? Meaning, with the floor dropped, the case is in the way. That being said, are you looking to clock it down or up? I would only guess both are possible, especially since you don't have linkages to deal with. I don't see driveshafts being a problem. If you clock it down, the angles on the front shaft will prolly be better. BUT, I'm only guessing, plus I don't have experience with IFS.

If you body lift 3" and drop the floor 3", you are back to square one. So the T-case won't be in the way. How much floor drop are you looking for. This stuff is really interesting, but like I said, I think we are too in the dark about this stuff.

I got a company to help me out on this goshichi.com. They are kind of new but it's a great design compared to all the moving parts there is to get in and out of my truck. I like to be closer to the steering wheel than his trucks do right now. We did a bunch of measuring and it's going to be close. They want to go 3" body and drop the floor with a slope towards the hump. My wheels hit the slope on the trucks they have with 57" of head room and I only need 53"-54". So there hoping not to drop the floor so much and the slope will be less. I mentioned about going 4" body and clock the transfer case down to pretty much elimnate any slope (in theory) I don't know the clearances. One of the guy's knows about turning the t-case on old trucks but is not sure about the new trucks. I want to check all options because it's a huge chunk of $ and I want to like it when it's done :D So any comments are appreciated. Turning the case down is what I think will help and if it will do no harm KERT can you build me a ring? Any other thoughts.

Thanks
Tony

interesting "About Us"
the name is soooo Japanese but couldn't find a translation. Sounds like someone's name, more than likely last name. But "About Us" says different :) Go = 5. Shichi = 7. Shi = death or loss. Chi = blood. Depending on the character used. But putting them together means nothing. lol

I like the story, minivans suck lol. The truck conversions look good. Keep us in the loop.

Well my sub is there and last weekend we were too and there is only steel panels and wires on the inside from the dash to the back doors. I just want to learn more about turning the case if it is a good way to fiund more room. I will keep you informed. It's on my mind a lot I'll see about the pictures we took last week.

I'm still trying to figure out what a 2 spd active transfer case is...

is there a number for this fancy new case? 205, 241, etc

The burb will most likely have an np 263, since it is a 2500. If it has auto 4wd mode, then it is an np246 (not sure if the 2500 has this option though). Either way, it will have a slipyoke front output on the transfercase, and will most likely require you to have a cv front driveshaft built if the transfer case is clocked, to eliminate vibrations caused by the increased angles. I think they just mean electric shift when they say active transfer case?
