I am trying to figure out if it will be best to rebuild or upgadre to a GM Crate.

Truck:
89 Blazer 120K miles, 350TBI/stock, rebuilt 700 trans, lift unkown suspension, 35's & clears with no rubbing.

I use the truck for drving from Richmond VA to NC outerbanks a couple times a year and for just driving around town on the weekends. Maybe a camping trip once or twice a year.

starts and runs good but burns oil like about 1qt every 500 miles.

I have a 2011 tacoma 4x4 and company car as my DD's.

A self rebuild with Vortec heads and TBI vortec intake will cost me about $1700.00

Crate:
Option#1
Gm performance stock replacement, adding a edelbrock TBI intake and adjustable FPR with headers. part # 12568758

Option#2
Upgrade to the 4 bolt main and rated at 210HP
part # 12520270 and using headers, Adjustable FPR and Edelbrock TBI intake.

Option#3
Upgrade to crate Votec for 96-2000 trucks.
part # 12530283
and using the Gm performance Vortec TBI intake
part # 12496821
and headers, AFPR.

I want to see if anyone has used these options and if there is a true advantage of one over another for a mildy built K5.

I am trying to get the best set up for around $2,000.00

I am trying to stay with crate motor with warranty.

I ran into the same problem. Trying to figure out where to go with a limited budget. After much looking ariound and pricing, I decided on a local engine builder. He has a good reputation and back's his work with a warranty equal to GM. Plus I get what I want, for less money. I want a little more power, but mainly want a motor that will hold together and last.

I have this exact same question. Anybody had experience in this area? The Vortech with vortech tbi manifold?
