I have to change my head gaskets, (small leak somewhere on one). since the heads are old and i can get the above mentioned for $289 from summit, im just going to put new ones on there.

Any EGR or manifold fitment issues? I will also be purchasing the
tbi manifold for the vortec heads.

Seems to me that this would be a nice freshen up for the top end of the motor.

Any opinions or suggestions appreciated.

There are no EGR passages in Vortec heads. You must buy a kit and replumb the EGR another way if you need EGR on your vehicle.

I hope you are also installing a better cam when you change the heads. The stock cam is pathetic and wont support higher flowing heads. Waste of money to put on better heads without changing the cam.
By the time you buy the new vortecs, manifold ,+ the EGR kit you wil be into it for around 900.
IMO you would be better off with a set of centerbolt Iron Eagles, or World Sr Torquer heads. They will build almost the same power for less money. They are a direct bolt on. If you are getting them for the Blazer in your sig. Get the small valve 64cc chambers. You will need a chip programed for these, or any other performance head /cam combo.
You should also get a 46MM 600cfm bored throttle body/ 65 lbs hr injectors to give the engine the air/fuel it needs.

I believe you will need a new intake as well. Summit has a kit that includes the vortec edelbrock performer for something like 900 bucks.

Some one on here has an idea of grinding the center bolts down on your current intake as a way of doing this too.

I've got a website bookmarked at home that has the GM part numbers for a stock exhuast manifold, pipe and connector I'll post up if you like.

An easier/cheaper option appears to me to buy a carb intake that fits the chosen heads, and the corresponding TBI adapter. Injection intakes are usually really expensive when they really shouldn't be, especially with TBI, where the principle of fuel/air mix/flow is the same as it is with a carb.

I second going with some other heads that don't require a costly intake, and which are better in the first place.

At the bottom of Summits page is this :

These cast iron Vortec cylinder heads will fit 1958 and later small block Chevy engines, and offer a 20 to 40 HP increase over earlier cast iron small block heads.

These Vortecs would cost 579.99 for a pair .

I would run the Summit house brand SUM-162108 . These are Aluminum , 62CC chamber , 170 CC intake ports so they aren't too huge , come ready with guidleplates and studs , springs rated for milder cams up to .480 lift , and centerbolt valve cover for straight bolt on to your rig with your readily available intakes .

Only 791.95 , thats only 105.50 more per head , and you don't need to do anything except bolt em on ( I would change the cam though ) :D
