GM Techs, HOW DO YOU WORK ON AN S10?

 Hmmmm, I did a starter on a 2000 extended cab S10 4x4 the other day and didn't have any problems. It did have to be turned just right to come out, but I didn't remove any other parts to do it. :dunno:

We are talking old body style, this is an 85 to be specific.

That reminds me, I need to order a mini high torque starter soon. I'm not gonna even bother puting a normal factory one on my 383 when its in that S10.

I hate working on my S10 blazer...nothing like going through the inner fenders to change spark plugs.... The middle plug on the drivers side is a PAIN IN MY *** the steering shaft is right in the way, you cant get a rachet on a socket

Yep! I remove the drivers side tire and use a long extension with a flex joint. :eek1: The old one breaks pretty much every time. I can't imagine how tight it must be once a V8 is stuffed under the hood!!! :doah:

It is not to bad to get an engine out with the front clip still on it ina 4x4 s-10. The tranny and starter have to be off though. To get the starter off try pulling off the Torque converter cover that makes it a lot easier. I have pulled five 4.3's out of S-10 Blazers in the last year it is a pain but not as bad as the newer ones

Well now that I see I'm not the only one who had trouble changing the starter on a S-10 I feel a lot better :D

I did one on a 92 and it was a pain and required 2 people.. The only thing I had to remove was the transmission inspection cover.. The 2 main things I remember being the biggest pain was GM didn't put enough wire to the starter and getting it lined up and twisted just the right way to get it out.. I can tell you it only comes out and goes back in one way and it is hard to figure out without a lot of cussing and busted knuckles..

I tried to do it by myself but after 2 hours I gave up and waited for a fresh pair of hands.. With a couple more hours of twisting and turning the starter everyway we could think of we finally got it out.. Putting a new one back in was almost as bad but not quite.. I do remember me under the truck holding the starter up until I couldn't feel my arm anymore while my buddy was trying to get the wires hooked up thru the wheel well.. There is not very much room to get a socket or a wrench to get the nuts of that hold the wires on even thru the wheel well so that makes for some more aggrivation..

After my experience with S-10 starters I sure hope it is not something I have to do any time soon.. Good luck

when i put the 350 in my s10 i took the front clip off. it makes it way easier.

oh and beat the lip on the firewall back while the motor is out too, makes it alot easier to put the motor in
