So I have kinda wanted to go with fuel injection for a while and I have the chance to buy an edelbrock kit 3505 with everything I need to convert, vortec heads, a nice dizzy, and a nice set of wires for under $1000. My questions are, after several hours of trolling around the internet:

How hard will it be to tune?

How restrictive is it performance wise? (I won't be turning faster than 5K)

Will I be able to use this set up when I build my 406? (It would be going on a stockish 350 now)

Any and all help is greatly appreciated as always!

The kit you want is designed to convert/ replace a L05 TBI to a Vortec engine. It will only work on a stock vortec engine. It is not tuneable.
Unless you have a stock vortec cam and compression ratio you will need a new chip. The chip with the kit will only work with the stock Vortec roller cam. If you dont have an engine built to same specs as a stock Vortec. You will have to send the specs on your engine to edelbrock and they will burn you a new chip.
you will also need to plumb in a EGR valve.
if you are planning to go much over 300 HP you will need bigger injectors. The stock 19 lb injectors wont support much over 300HP.

If you are going to run it on a built 406 you will need new injectors and a chip burnt to your engine specs.
Before you buy the kit it might be best to call edelbrock and see what they can do for you.

Why do I have to use the egr valve? I planned on getting a new chip but wasn't sure if the set up would support a 400+ hp 406 even with larger injectors.

The 19lb injectors are the main downfall of this kit, and since your only using the tbi ecu which is only setup for two injectors, its not truly multi-point. It is nice to have 8 injectors but for power I think you must stick with the throttle body with big injectors. With the edelbrock mpfi kit im pretty sure your just paying for throttle response, and 1000 is alot to spend for throttle response.

So with this system, could I add megasquirt or other similar products to get it so I could tune it?

And will the TBI body flow enough to support a 406 that spins 5500 rpm? The ultimate goal would be to add this set up on the 406 I am build but I would hate to waste my money.

On another thought, he is including set of 906 vortec heads, MSD pro billet dizzy and nice set of wires. Anyways thanks for the info and comments, keep it coming!

I dont see why you cant make it work. It would take some time on a DYNO and some $$$$ with a good chip burner. with someone who knows what they are doing

You could make it work with Mega squirt too. If you want to spend the time to make it work.
Doubt if you will get much help from edelbrock for what you want.
Edelbrock sells that kit as 50 state legal. Doubt if they will burn a chip that is not smog leagal.
That system uses the stock ECM/ chip.
To tweek it to support 400 HP with the stock ecm will take a good tuner, some dyno time, and some $$$$$.
Or you can learn to tune EFI with megasquirt. It will easily support a TBI batch fire system.
TBs and air flow are not a problem. You can buy bored stock GM TBs that flow 750 cfm if you so desire.

If its going on your 406 i would have to suggest a 4 barrel tbi, I would have went that route on my 350 if they were smog legal in ca.

So I tried to go wheeling yesterday and we have had about 18" of snow melt in the last 3 days so it was mighty muddy. Just as I was getting ready to pull down in some nasty terrain I told my buddy "We better make sure the front hubs are engaging." I put her in 4 low and got nothing from the front. We pulled back up to the house and pulled the lock outs and the hubs were both engaged so we looked under the truck and saw the yoke on my drive shaft had blown up. So this morning I popped my diff cover to check things out and about 15 chunks of metal fell out. SO...I am going to invest my money building my D60 and a new shaft. If anybody else is intrested in the mpfi stuff here is the link.
