other then the million dollars the junk yard wants. whats the fair price for a complete 100k cummins with all the fixings. auto tranny included. 2wd motor. junkyard says $1500 for just motor no assessories.

Low miles cummins can get $2000 easy money without a tranny. If it is a 94-98 12v w/mech IP they can get even more.

Check out the insurance auctions. There was a comlete 98 4X4 sold at auction here for $2800 with around 125K miles. Not bad since it had tranny, t-case and all plus rear axle and drivline (Front was munched - bent tube) plus a lot of other parts a guy could use.

from what i remember i don't want a 24 valve (mid 98) and they weren't intercooled til 91 or 92. so I'm guessing i need a 92 to 98. any one think a sm465 could keep up to one?

If I remember right either the last half of 97 or early 98 had 24 valve with mechanical fuel pump same as the 12 valve - no computer to screw around with but lots of upgrade possibilities. I know the 89/90 (all called 90's) did not have the intercooler but by mid 91 they all did. No big deal to convert a non-intercooled engine to intercooler - just the tailhousing of the turbo and the 90 degree adaptor that is on top of the intake manifold. Also a different fuel plate profile on the intercooled model, but you can get those from Banks for $40.

BTW, I'm on my 3rd 12 valve, so they are no mystery to me - PM or call if you need info.

You want a 94-98 12v with the P7100 mechanical IP. The 89-93 used the less desireable VE pumps and the 98.5+ 24v used the less desireable VP pump.

No 24v ever came with a mech IP that I have ever seen or heard of.

If I was choosing I would go with a 94-98 1st choice, 98.5-02 24v VP 2nd, 89-93 12v VE 3rd.

Other than getting an intercooler in the deal,I wouldn`t limit to an intercooled model. All the plumbing will need reworked for a Chevy swap. And,for an offroad rig,the earlier 12Vs have all the grunt you could want.I know, more is better and braggin`rights are fun. But,the k.i.s.s. 12v is a great choice.

:deal: From 1998-1998.5 you could get a 12valve in a quad cab (with the doors).

That is true but it Willy is looking to swap a Cummins into a Chevy not buy a Dodge.

Man I wish my buddy's dad would get back to me, he found a 95 reg cab 4x4 NV4500, small underhood fire, but still runs, 160k-ish miles for $500. I want to swap into and older body. Be pretty cool in a 65 GMC 3/4 ton....

yes, but I was just exorcising my knowledge :wink1:

I know where there is one for sale around here. Shoot me a PM if you are close by and interested.

My shop is next door to a yard and they recently sold a 95ish motor with 28K for $2400.It was complete with all accessories.Try to find a 7.3 Powerstroke with that milage for that kind of money, not going to happen. At least not around here anyway. When the PSD in my F350 pukes I'll probably go with a Cummins myself.

If you found a yard that would let go with one for $1500, you better jump on it if thats what you want.

My local yard wants $4500 for one, and thats about the going rate for a Dodge setup 5.9 Cummins.

Are you wanting to swap in a Cummins and drivetrain into your Blazer? Now I'm really floored. Think of the possibilities.
