I just found an 89 K5 for sale, the dealer of a dealership is selling it at his dealership:-) His is the only owner, has been garaged its entire life, and a washington truck its entire life. Brand new tires / engine / trans / leaf packs, all suspension is new, etc. Anything that I may not think of, that I should look for? If i like it I will be taking it home today.

I can just imagine their asking a small fortune for it.

However they are willing to take my 08 focus as a straight across trade. So thats the plan. Get rid of a car payment, get a nice blazer for a DD.

You probably won't have any issues, but here is what I learned from buying my Blazer.

1. "I removed the catalytic converter and it really opened it up!" means "The engine is running rich and ruined the cat so I had to take it out. And then I did a hack job on the exhaust so you will have to replace the whole thing."

2. "Everything works" means "The power locks will stop working in a week, the temp gauge will stop working in 2 weeks, the dome lights don't come on when you open the drivers side door, and you'll have to lubricate all the hinges and mechanical hinge points to get things to work."

3. "A slight fender bender" means "The drivers side door is about to fall off."

4. "A little rust" means "Will not pass state inspection unless you cut out several parts of the truck that you can't easily fix, such as the part behind the passenger door including the seat belt mount and the tailgate hinge mounting point."

5. "I took it for one last drive before you came over" means "Will not start cold, replace the fuel injectors to fix that, plus it will blow smoke when it starts so you need a valve job - if not rings, too."

6. "Always changed the oil" means "Never changed the oil."

Anyway, I'm not bitter! :haha:

If I were you, I would crawl around underneath and be sure there are no spots of rust through the floor ANYWHERE and I would remove the rear tailgate cover and inspect the glass mechanism.

^Wait, you have to fix rust to get your vehicle licenced? Hell what would I drive? Move here.

They want 6 grand for it.

In this economy 6G's is too much to pay for a rig. I have no idea what you owe on you're Focus but i doubt they are willing to take your Focus as a straight across trade since that means they would have to pay it off and they would be losing money at that point.

I owe 5 grand on the focus, and it has 16k miles on it. Its a good deal on their part. I already spoke to them about it.

How many miles are on it? And how long ago was the "new" stuff put on it? That price seems a a bit high. But then again I'd rather have an old Chevy than a new Ford.

I would check over the fluids and when you do go to start it see if its warm from being started before you arrived. Also crawl under it and inspect the floors really good as the carpet will be hiding most of the bad stuff. And above all your gonna have to post up some pics :wink1:

SHIIIEEEETTT!!!!! that focus is a turd!!!! Id rather take thew Chevy with hidden problems than a pos with a warrenty. If they are really willing to take that focus off your hands take any deal you can on the blazer!!!

If you decide to make the trade make DAMN SURE you get proof that they paid off your loan against the Focus. If you fail to do this it could come back to haunt you badly.

Im with Scott on this one but say 6 grand is waaaaaay to much! Have you been looking long? Can't speak for your car loan but thats just tooo much for a blazer here... garaged or not. I payed 2500 for a mint, one owner 91 blazer with 90 something k miles on it. Granted it was a great deal but they're out there if your patient.

It was a freakin no go. That blazer was NOT what they said it was. I wouldnt have paid more than $2500 for it. A focus with 19k miles was worth more than that thing any day.

And as far as the comment on getting rid of the focus and getting a chevy... After i hit about 20 I kinda grew out of that mentality. The focus is a great little car that runs really well and gets good gas mileage. I have no problem keeping it, but would rather have a nice clean DD blazer.

that sux man.it sounded like a good deal if it was what he said it was.i guess it was a p.o.s. huh?or just not worth the trade.

really, Ive have a niece and nephew that had the motor replaced on both of there focuses and both had under 20k miles! Also, there mother used to work at the ford dealership in the service department and said they had more focus problems than any othere car. She got a huge discount on the cars becasue she worked there.
And honestly your the one that wants to get rid of a "great little car."

I don't want to get rid of it, I just don't really need it. And the focus was really dependent on the year. One of my best friends from the Army got out and now is a service tech for ford, he is the one that got me to buy this one. From what he has told me, besides some minor recalls (I had one for the transmission in mine) the new body style ones are doing great.
