Found a deal on a running M1008 and I am going to check it out tomorrow. I plan on swapping the axles to my K5 and then throwing a 3/4 set on it and sell it.

Is it true the spring perches will not match with the K5?

Is this truck worth anything without the axles? I figured since it is running I could buy some JY axles and sell it as a 3/4 ton truck??

Thanks for the advice.....

Oh ya I forgot to ask, I have ORD X over on the D44, will the draglink still work with the 60? I understand I will need new arms and a new tie rod, just thinking I could save money on the draglink.

The rear spring perches on the M1008 will be 40.5" on center whereas your K5's spacing is 42.5" You will need to move the perches 1" out on each side. The shock mounts are reversed also.

Regardless, all are easy fixes to get a Detroit locked 4.56 geared 14BFF under your rig.:D

im running a hd tierod that was ment for a 10b on my 60, and just got it aligned friday so i know it will work fine. draglink will work as well. new arms is all you need

Well I went and looked at it this afternoon and it was better than I had imagined. The Diesel fired right up, lived in AZ it's whole life, no rust, D60, TH400, 14FF Detroit, 4.56 gears.......I am in heaven:)

I don't want to even tell you guys what I paid for it....:p:

Are the D60's open on these trucks or do they have a limited slip in them??

Mostly open. Some -- I believe some or all of the M1028 heavy option trucks -- had some kind of LS... Auburn something or other? up front.

Quit holding that carrot in front of our noses........AND TELL US WHAT YOU GIVE FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

easiest way to get the 4.56 locked 14FF under your truck... but the 3/4 ton axles you planned to put in anyways, and swap the guts from the 14FFs. the 3/4 ton housing will bolt right up to your K5, and obviously the 1 ton FF will work in the 1008.

I think I will just reweld the perches and put the M1008 14ff in instead of setting up the gears to put in my 14ff. I will put my 14ff in the M1008 which has 3.73's and a detroit, then buy a matching D44 8 lug and call it good. I took her for a drive after work and the tranny feels strong. It shifts into second a little hard, but downshifts nicely. The engine runs strong, but of course lacks the raw power of the 350 in my K5.

I kind of like the idea of keeping the truck instead of selling it, but who knows what will happen.

Now I have to get some high steer, locker and rock ring for the 60 and call it good:D

I think I will just get a lockright from reading some posts here on Ck5.

It will be sad to part with the D44 in the K5 since it has taken such a beating over time with only one OX ujoint failure in the last 2 years. Pretty impressive:eek1:

BTW, the Dana44 from the K5 will be traded for a Warn 8274 winch:D Bonus!!
