"Goober's Garage" K20 Build

As some may know from my other build thread i picked up a nice 85' C10 and a nice late seventies K20 frame 14FF/44 3.73 geared. Sold some stuff today to fund this project so its time for a new thread for it. Plan is a 4" shackle flip, cross tied shackles, 4 inch front springs, zero rates, maybe a one inch body lift (undecided), steering brace, got a guy that will can make my drive shafts if i bring him the parts, clean and paint frame while body is off. Once the rolling chassis is done ill put together the rest of the drive train, once that's done ill swap the C10 body and gas tank onto the K20 frame. Not sure what im going to run as far as the trans, t case and motor, ill see what i come across. Family friend gave me some nice 36-12.50x16.5 tsl's that im going to use for now. Im basically building this truck as a project and to make a nice 4wd truck...nothing too special or crazy. Kurt and ORD will be getting a call very soon :woot:

36x12.5-16.5 tsl s are mounted on some stock steelies for now and are on. most of frame is stripped of PO brackets. orders are placed to stephen and kurt :waytogo: going to start tearing the axles down for inspection/TLC soon

I would recommend the 1" body lift. They give you a small amount of tire clearance, they aren't as noticeable (therefore not stupid looking) as a 2" or 3" body lift, and they make it easier to work on things under the body.

the one inch body lift has already been ordered :thumb:. i agree, i didn't want any crazy gaps but wanted that little extra tire clearance so i went with a one inch.

rear end says its a 77' with 3.73 gears, everything looks to be in way better shape than i thought. shoes drums and hardware all look like they were replaced just before this thing was parked years ago. got the old hangers off ready for the shackle flip. usually the previous owners leave gremlins, i happen to like this PO. He went through and replaced ALL the spring bushings, hangers and nut/bolted everything with grade 8's and crimp nuts. i dont think ill ever have it this easy taking hangers off again.

edit: whoa! thats a bad pic...ooops

Well got the rear end stripped, buddy is taking the backing plates and diff cover to work To blast for me. Also got the call to look at a 74 blazer rolling chassis that belonged to a friend of a friend. It was his dads blazer that he rarely used, supposedly under 100,000 miles but the body was ate by Michigan winters so they scrapped the body and put the chassis away in the barn. It has a 350/350/203 for the drivetrain. Tranny fluid looked like it was just poured out of the bottle it looked so good. Good oil and it rolls over so hopefully I can bring it back to life. Plan is to rob the drivetrain from it and a few body mount brackets and junk the rest. The guy also threw in a box of front end parts including a few lockouts and two sets of small block headers. I got it for 300 bucks, I don't think I did to bad on it. Yes it's a gamble but it has every thing and need. Which will save me time and from savaging parts off multiple vehicles. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow

got one front body mount off the blazer frame, got the other one half off. torched a few of the others off to patch into the k20, as the k20's are hogged out pretty good. stripped the parts blazer motor of the wiring harness, snowplow pump, and mouse nest filled q jet, and some other stuff thats not needed. hooked some jumper cables up to a battery and jumped the starter and she rolls right over, got oil squirting out of port by dizzy. ill think shell come to life pretty easily. also took a piece of 3/16" flat stock i had and welded a strip on the 14ff's cover. a little cheap insurance. i got to get some pics of everything, i keep forgetting!

Port by the dizzy should be where the oil pressure sending unit goes.

correct. i just said that because i cranked it over till i got oil out of there. wanted to lube everything up and make sure it was pumping oil before i put any money into it. this motor has sat for roughly 15 -16 years in the guys barn ....

in my dreams its already done haha. with funds low and income slow itll be a little while. My goal is to take it out there at least once this summer

Oh come on you can do it.... :D

Just messin. hope to see ya up there man! :thumb:

brown guy aint here yet, but after discovering taylormades build and looking at daves wheels it has swayed me towards painting some under carriage stuff CAT yellow. im sick of the usual black :doah::haha:. ive been thinking about it but once i seen those guys' projects it convinced me. i wanted a differnt color than what guys around here do, ya know black, red, lime green, orange, John Deere green. aint seen a CAT yellow one yet, and like most people i like the off shade of yellow it is. it doesnt scream yellow when you look at it. not going to go crazy just a few things.

Do the frame:D

nows the time to do it but man idk, think it would be to much???
edit:gunna stick with just a few things, not ballsy enough to do the whole frame haha

ORD's stuff came today. Steering braces for mine and a buddies truck, poly body mounts, and a 1" BL. Heres a few pics of stuff. i got to clean the garage, reassemble rear axle and get to painting the rear axle and frame, then ill open up the front axle

Actually, look at daves maiden. He did the frame in a tan and the axles in a gray. Either of those would look sick on your frame imo. Or just do black. Either way hit up the frame with a wire wheel and throw some paint down.
