I was at my favorite junk yard Saturday and noticed a 3/4 'burb with the axles still on. The only thing missing were the hubs, which is not a big deal. They wanted $350 for both. I think its a fair price. Any thoughts or suggestions?

No Hubs? Why bother. Still going to have to take the time to find hubs and buy them too. I'd pass.

They were the 8 lug variety. I didn't have my spotter's guide with me. They seemed like they would be more stout than the stock 6 lug axles.

Nothing special about the front axle assuming it was stock, it just has 8 wheel lugs vs. 6 wheel lugs but everything else is equivalent. The rear is definitely stouter, but exactly how much stouter depends on whether it is a SF or FF 14-bolt.

Thanks for all the feedback. I guess I'll wait until all the swap meets start up and start looking for some 1 ton axles and get the strength I'm after.
