Good Deal?

I hav an 85 M1009 lined ip to buy in the next week or so. The engine and transmission hav been rebuilt. The truck has 47k miles on it with 40k on the enigine and tranny. The price the guy is asking is 2000 dollars. From all the pics he has sent me there is no rust on it but the paint needs a touch up. Is this a fair price?

Ok found another M1009 with 74k on it. Im wiring on interior pics. The timing chain needs replaced, for 1000 greenbacks. Good deal?

I'd almost go for the first if you know it runs. $2K and running beats $1k and needs work.

My first question for the guy would be "what happened at 7000 miles that the engine and tranny needed to both be rebuilt?" You'd think at 7000 miles everything would still be good...

It's been my experience that sellers lie. Unless I see receipts and pictures I don't believe "rebuilt" anything. Same for mileage. Unless a guy has documentation showing long term low usage (carfax does this quite well) I assume the odometer has roilled over at least once.

I'd still say you're better off at $2K for one that runs and drives well over $1K for one you're gonna have to get running and driving. Chances are good you might drop more than $1K into the cheaper one just to get it running and driving like the other one.

The CUCV Blazers saw a lot of "running around" use so I can see it having 107k, someone screwing something up, and then 40k more put on it by civilians. Not to mention they've been surplusing these things for almost two decades now so who knows when it went out of the service.

I'd ask for a VIN, do a carfax or something, and then try and figure out how long it's been in the civilian world just to know.

Thanks for the heads up y'all. I'm gona talk to the guy that has the running one and get the vin and research it.

If you can get the identification number for the truck there's a guy over on SteelSoldiers who can look up the military history on it for you.
That said that number may have long ago faded into oblivion and/or might not show anything.

2000 runnig is a fair price I would not buy the 1000 dollar one if it has any kind of motor trouble.
