good donor?

have a local guy selling a 1982 Chevy Suburban. Its a 3/4 ton 4x4, with a 6.2 diesel and th400. He didn't say what type of t-case. Assuming its stock, will that be a np205? I dont know jack about desiels... is the th400 for them the same as any other th400? need to bolt it behind a 350 and in front of a doubler...

I would think a th400/np208 combo in there . I also belive the bell housing pattern is the same . The 400 is 32 spline output in front of the np208 , which is 32 spline behind a th400 .

I doubt its a 208 since im pretty sure the th400/208 combo only came in military vehicles. My guess is a 205.

i have had a 83 with a 400/208 combo and my dad had an 82 longbox 3/4t with the 6.2/400/208 behind it....i think that is the more common combo out there

I'd buy it and wheel the Burb!..sounds like a decent truck,being 3/4 ton and all--why use it for parts? is it smashed up or something?..

My 82 K20 has the 6.2 and a TH400,it has a NP208 behind it..I doubt its a military truck,I dont see olive drab paint anywhere,but I guess its possible,I bought it not far from Otis AFB.. but I've seen many other trucks with the same powertrain as mine stock..I haven't sen a NP 205 after 1980 in anything but 1 tons..and 1980 ones had a slip yoke output--the 1 tons might too,not sure about that..

Diesel TH400 is a BIT different...

TH400's used in diesel applications have a different torque converter(lower stall speed,and 6 bolt pattern) --and the govenor is calibrated differently to shift at lower speed than a TH400 used in gas engine applications,but its easy enough to swap in a gas torque converter and govenor.same bell housing pattern on both--there is a thread in the diesel forum on the very same question..
