Hey guys,

looking to add some more secure storage to my burb. I carry a good amount of electronics regularly, and need quick access to them. Anyone have any creative/small lock boxes added to their center consoles? Mine doesn't lock with the key i have for some reason :(.

Would consider doing some sort of a tuffy box inside if it wasn't too big, or a thin one along the side of the seat next to the console.

Anyone have any good suggestions?

Thanks!

I honestly don't have much to add to this thread as far as ideas go. I've seen some cool stuff with ammo cans, but never myself. I would like to hear feedback on your install and use of the gun lockbox. That's really a neat idea. It may even qualify a gun for conceal carry, depending on state regs. Good luck!

Not that i am proud of it, but i am NOT a gun owner at this point. So not going to be used for a gun.

Ive seen guys use ammo cans, but i need this to be easy. Need to throw ipod/ipod touch/radar detector/ faceplate, sometimes cash, etc in there when i leave the truck, and reopen before i move on. No padlocks here, needs to be a keyed built in lock.

I'll let you know how the gun box works, i'm hoping it a quality box. I ordered one of those small $25 tuffy's off of ebay too, so if the gun one is cheap, ill stick to a small tuffy.

Good point...that's more how I'd use it too. Faceplates, GPS, Ipood, Radar Detector, etc. But....lol...I don't have a one seater, so I guess I could use two. I'd like to find a bigger one like that for my Digital camera. I'll stay tuned bro.

I've been trying to come up with some locking storage for my K5 as well...I need it if it's going to be parked for extended periods of time(more than a couple days) up here in Austin. I may end up fabbing a locking custom center console, integrate my stereo and everything into it...and then do something separate for all my tools and such in the back. Gonna see how this turns out though.

Both that gun box and the small tuffy are on their way now. Will update when i recieve them!

I added a military tool box to hold stuff. It fit nicely over the wheel well. Ain't purty, but quite functional.

Nice, i like that solution for that type of a rig. Not for me, but good example of what works!

Ok, received both today.

Tuffy box up first. I CAN"T believe how strong this thing is. No wonder they retail for close to $100. Too bad this one is pretty small. But the lock components are all 1/8" plate, and the lock arm is basically put in a double shear situation, very pry resistant.

Not sure exactly where i'm going to mount this one, but it will be installed.

The other lock box is nice too, not as sturdy, but for what i will be using it for, it will do its purpose. Unfortunately, i ordered the Medium size box, and think i should get the large instead. The ebay guy is going to refund me the original amount, and i will upgrade to the larger box.

I will wait for this larger box to show up before i mount the tuffy i think.

Anyways, pics will follow.

On the same storage idea, anyone have any underhood storage fab'd up?

I got a new tow strap, and would really like a box under the hood to keep it in......

Somehow i don't have enough storage inside the suburban

Under the hood, bad juju for straps. Too hot, IMO.

Under the body somewhere, away from the exhaust ... maybe.

Nothing wrong with a permanent installation of a metal box - to warm/cook e.g. burritos. :D Methinks driver's side inner fender, sorta close to the exhaust would work well.
Come to think of it, we've actually done entire racks of ribs once - but all that was aluminum foil and bailing wire...

I want to say Rick Pewe or one of the older time editors of 4-Wheel & Off-Road did an article about a "burrito oven" or something like that on his jeep a good while back.
