i'm asking mostly for a friend who has a 72 k10 that he got in trade for a snowmibile. are there any good websites to get parts from for these trucks? he already knows about lmc but they either don't have what he needs or it's crazy expensive.

he needs an engine crossmember, and motor mounts. if no one can name a decent source(craigslist was a no go), does anyone have extras they would be willing to part with?

Kert sells a custom motor motor/crossmember setup for 1st gens that is pretty sweet along with some other 1st gen specific stuff.

If he's looking for junkyard, oe type stuff. Try Randy on 67-72 chevy. His usermane is "teeitup" and he usually has a couple of part out threads in the classifieds.

About the only thing I use LMC for is the parts diagrams.

the crossmember can only be had from a junkyard I believe, or you can order an aftermarket one from ORD or DIY. I recommend the aftermaket one since it's easily removable, AND you don't have to cut rivets to earn an old crossmember. The motor mounts can also be found from one of these companies, but they are hard mounts and increase vibration. I'd also look at Energy Suspenion, they make a nice full rubber insert for the stock clam.

I recommend Kert's too. Cheap, uber-beefy and you can drop the center section to service the oil pan. Can't go wrong.

based on ck5's recommendation, kert just got another customer. i completely forgot about diy's xmember until you guys posted up about it, that thing's sweet.

speaking of kerts crossmember, did it have any impact on the bolt that goes through the steering pump bracket? I can never get that one as tight as I'd like on the stock bracket.

Z, if you get a chance, a pic of that area would be sweet... unless you use a different bracket. :P

To be perfectly honest I'm not even really sure what bolt you're talking about... I have the serp belt setup from a trans am on mine though, so I imagine I don't have it anyways. Just in case I'll grab a pic in a second here anyways.

yeah, doesn't sound like you have the same setup. on the stock power steering pump bracket, there is an arm that goes back to the motor mount and is held in place by the front upper bolt. it's a screwy design and a pain in the ass to deal with.

I definitely don't have that, but I don't remember it being that way before either really...

Here's how she sits now (don't mind the mud/nasty looking P/S cap, or the seeping head gasket-all of this will be fixed when I put the new motor in eventually:haha:)

thanks man, those pics are perfect. I'll try and remember to take a pic of what mine looks like so you know what I'm talking about.
looks like kerts would be a lot easier to deal with. now I just gotta see if that crossmember would still be usable if I swapped in a 6.0 since that is my ultimate goal.

It will just tell him that and he'll make the plates that mount to the motor to fit the 6.0 if the bolt pattern is different on the LS motors. That'd be sweet!:thumb:

For any off the shelf non custom kind of stuff i strongly support Summit racing. I have spent thousands there and i still cant beleive how everytime i order something standard shipping how they get it to me in 2 days every single time when the websight says 5-7 business days.
