Just my luck i buy a blazer and i took it offroad for the first time today and the transmission cooler return line came off draining my whole trans and i didnt notice until my truck started rolling down hill and my 305 was screaming. i was towed to the bottom of the trails by my brothers bronco and after i fixed it and it took 4 quarts it has a major slipping issue. does anybody know of a good rebuild kit for the th700 that is maybe a little more durable than the auto zone brand. by the way this is a rebuilt trans with 5,000 miles and it buckled when i got rough with it so i dont think the autozone brand, ITC is going to be getting return business with this customer.

TCI Maximizer kit i used for my 700r4 build before i bought a BTO stage 2 but it worked amazing my buddy now has it in his 79 chevy on 44 boggers shifts hard and drives nice around town

If you're going to rebuild it yourself, do tons and tons of research and *hopefully* have someone that knows what they're doing help you.

I've never torn into an auto but I'd feel comfortable with a TH350/TH400.

Even professional shops have trouble with 700R4's.

Its not that its impossible, its just easy to screw it up and result in a quickly burnt up transmission. Of the dozen or so rebuilt 700R4/4L60E (basically same trans) I've dealt with, nearly every one burnt up within 20K.

Ive got about 40000 on mine and the oil is still bright shiney red. But I also have fully synthetic(AMSoil brand), the biggest non racing cooler B&M makes and a nice firm shift kit. :D

if you do end up tearing into your 700 to build it yourself just take your time lay EVERYTHING out nicely and in order on a big table and keep it VERY VERY CLEAN the littlest bit of dust/dirt will cause that transmission to grenade in no time if you follow a manual like the ATSG manual i bought one for mine its very easy and takes no time at all! you may also need to borrow some of the special tools for changing the clutch packs and what not i built my own lo/rev spring compressor and what not but if you dont have the ability im sure if you take the peices down to a tranny shop they will help ya out if you wanna save a buck $$

problem fixed

well it turns out i havent completly destroyed this trans yet. i ended up putting in a 4 row radiator, bypassing the radiator trans cooler and installed a hipo auxilary unit, and changed the filter. the clutch packs ended up being fine after all of this, after i drove it a while to scuff the hot spots out she is doing better than before becuase i now have better line pressure since i am using 1 cooler instead of two. i appreciate all your guys help please read my new thread with the kickdown cable issues which have got me stumped.
