Gooseneck service trailer

Something I should have built years ago. Getting all my mechanic/metal working tools on a trailer.
I did some bastard axles like that on a mini ex trailer when I was with the power company in Moab. They drug the thing over some boulders and mangled the axle tube twice in a row so I stepped up to like 5k tubes and kept the lesser rated hubs so I could run the same tires/wheels. Didn't need to go higher on them since all it ever hauled was a 4,500 lb mini.
I like those junction boxes. The clear versions are nice to if you want to be able to glance at it to see if things are getting green and fuzzy inside but they don't stay clean if mounted under the rear of a truck/trailer.

Agreed the electrical boxes make diagnostics and changes much easier.

Gonna be moving back to Texas in May to work in the oilfield again and start building on the property at Lake Brownwood. The tow rig is ready however the trailer needs a few things for a long trip like that. 2 loads for certain, maybe 3 if I can't pack it down well enough/sell things. As it sits is 1 load all by itself.

Ordered:
1 new 5200 lb axle with brakes and standard 6x5.5" hub pattern to replace the front axle
3 new wheels for that pattern
4 new tires
New marker lights for the sides

Other repair needed is the brakes on the 1 axle that currently has them. Had thought about going to a new 14k rated 20ft trailer but this one fits my "little trailer" needs well. Bit of a diet with the current stuff needed but that shouldn't be difficult.

That's gonna be a fun move from what I can see of all the crap you have accumulated like all us gearheads. I have acreage if you need to donate some to me for "storage". How's the oilfield stuff doing? I don't get updates any more now that I don't work on that stuff.

Think I should be alright on the storage aspect but will let you know. First trip down will be what's on the trailer now (tools/parts). Second trip will be the 82 crew cab and hopefully all my stuff at the house. Getting rid of the mattress, besides the TV and computer everything else fits inside plastic totes so hopefully get all that stuff in 1 trip.

Oilfield is doin good right now. There was a hiring freeze over the winter (usual) that has been lifted. Goin back to work as a mechanic on frac equipment this time.

Mighta spoke a little soon on the oilfield, job is still lined up but sure everybody knows how the market currently is. Either way though the move to the lake property is still happening.

Replaced the front axle with a new 5200 lb unit with brakes, and new load range E tires on both axles as well. Running the brake wires for that axle once the weather cooperates. First trip down to Texas happens next week

New Mexico, holy shit is highway 491 in terrible condition. Trailer got airborne on that highway which caused damage to a few things. Broke some covers off the lathe, broke the mounting bolts for the bandsaw and the strap holding it/plasma cutter down. Both of which got launched out of the trailer resulting in the plasma cutter getting some road rash but the bandsaw was dragged and destroyed the motor on it (among other damage). Pretty sure this is also what lead to the old axle failure as well. What had been the front axle was swapped in to replace the destroyed old rear axle.

Because of all that the trailer was just dropped off at the property for now. It's gonna be cheaper to rent a flatbed to haul the 82 crew cab down along with other stuff, then make the final trip with just the 3500hd.

Decided to move all the tools into just the 11ft bed, for now it's in chaos but that bed is large enough it can fit everything. This makes it all a bit smaller and cuts down on the weight a fair amount as well since the trailer was overloaded. Dragged the tools off the trailer for now since a flatbed was needed for general hauling requirements. Generator has been removed from the neck and for now placed in the center area of the 11ft bed.

Trailer has made a few runs from here to Dallas, and a round trip to Kansas. The other old axle has finally decided enough is enough and started falling apart (cracked wheel, another hub failure), made the last trip back from Dallas with the rear axle just hanging there, no wheels on it (no cargo either).

Rolled across the scales and the trailer weighs 2500 lbs empty, essentially nothing for what it is which is part of what I like about it. The lack of rigidity in the frame brings up the need for more crossmembers because it really doesn't have much.

Going to modify the trailer more when it starts cooling down here, right now mostly being a lake bum, finishing online classes, and waiting for work to start. The biggest things I want from this trailer is a smoother ride and the rolling tailboard, might even go with that Timbren axle-less suspension.
