got 3/4 ton running gear now what

i know it needs brakes and im getting:
steel braided brake lines
1350 u joint
new wheels tires
new rotors and calipers and pads

what else am i missing? i looked at the tech section of the sway but didnt help me very much such as new shocks u bolts etc. i need like a step by step if there is one available
 
i will most likely be doing this by myself or with my friend who is not very car savy. Butyou have to learn by doing and it doesnt seem to difficult. i just need a list of parts and tools i may need, i dont think the haynes manual is gonnna cover this one
 
You shouldn't need anything special. Just new u bolts and maybe shocks should be fairly east
 
what kinda brake lines should i run. i need new ones anyways so shouldi order them for 3/4 ton axles or what? any brands or websites?
 
anyone have a good brake line brand? also when i order should i order them for what year the axle is or the truck? and where do i get the proper u bolts?
 
It depends on how much many you have and what skills you have. You can get a brake line bender cheap and youll need a flaring tool. Just search the net for these things. What this does for you is give you the option to make custom bends and hide or otherwise tuck the lines out of the way. Brake lines are pretty soft metal so they bend fairly easy. If you were to order them, you could go by the truck, everything will still pretty much be in the same position.
 
i had my u-bolts made at a local truck shop. it was cheaper than anywhere else and they can do any size you need.
 
i dont actually need all new brake lines just some extended ones for the lift i have on there.

and also how would i measure what size u bolts i needed
 
Gotta watch the brakeline thing. Depending on what front diff you got the banjo could be 7/16" or 10mm. Easiest is to retain the calipers from your truck and get the lines that fit it.

10 bolt front and D60 use the 10 mm banjo. D44 (with correct calipers) uses the 7/16" banjo.

Make sure to use new copper compression washers or your brakelines will leak at the banjo.

Tools you'll likely need:

Grinder to cut old U-bolts off
pickle fork to separate the steering arm/draglink on the old front end.
1/2" breaker bar and 15/126" deep socket to tighten new U-bolts
Flare wrenches for brakelines...you do not want to round those off using a regular wrench!
Brake bleeder kit of your choice.

Remember to wait to torque the U-bolts til you have the trucks weight on the springs. Otherise you'll bind up the springs somewhat and it'll ride harsh (er)

whats this banjo you speak of? could i use my stocl 10bolt calipers? its a 10bolt 3/4ton im putting in the front
 
It's the end of the front brakline that attaches to the caliper. Yes you can just use your current calipers.

so i should be good? what brake lines should i order? the square heads or circular
 
Call up ORD and tell em what year K5 you have, and they'll be able to hook you up.

how about a good jack and good set of jack stands?:wink1:

I know that is a common sense thing to have when doing an axle swap but I just got done talking to the brother of a friend of mine that was killled a couple months ago by a car that fell off the jack because he used a crappy jack and no jack stands.
